i think this book is for ppl from every kind of fiqas...not like that u r thinking...
"bahishti zewar" may contain lots of educational stuff, but most of it is targetted towards women in "rural" areas, or women of "third world" countries. and also, it contains lots of stuff which is very much influenced by "culture", does not necessarily agree with "Islam". so be careful when you read it.

For “rural women”? What in the blue hell are you talking about? Go have a look at the MAJORITY* of city people and see how less corrupted they are from rural people.. The difference being that some rural people may be unaware of the true pratices of Islam due to so much Bid’aa taking place, and the city people due to westernized minds and ignorance… And it isn’t simply made for people who are “unaware” but also to further the average Muslim into understanding right and wrong form the practices of today… Perhaps you didn’t find it suiting you due to… Allah knows what reason(s), but doesn’t mean that it is “A mixture of common sense, chauvinistric opinions, Indian culture and trash.” as Shirin says… Beheshti-Zewaar (Heavenly Ornaments) is in fact one of the best guide for people concerning culture/traditions/customs who have lost their sense and need guidance… But of course if you still remain unsure of the book and its advice on Bid’aa.. Then simply follow Sahih Bukhari… I’m sure Shirin won’t find any default in that book!
Thats what I used to think too, but when I read lots of this book, and went back to Sunnah and The Quran, I had to put it aside

i haven’t actually read the book but i have heard from a lot of ppl about this book.. so i’d be interested in knowing how it contradicts the quran and sunnah. possible if you could just outline a few brief points?

Thanks for asking. I don't have the copy right now with me, but if you go to chapter which deals with "marriages" it tells you to not marry a person of different business community (i.e. "dhobi", "doodh walay", "teli" etc.), a rich woman should not marry a poor man and vice versa. This is one example, I can dig further to bring about other contradictions but, to tell you the truth I really don't want to pick that book again. I have copies of Quran, Bukhari, Muslim to read before I read "bahishti zewar".

I bought it because there was a lotta hype bout it and read it twice. I agree with Shirin on this . . . lotta b.s.

Well, we all don't have the same point of view Is see... Mainly because we disagree with some rulings in the book, as it reflects default form our actions...
