HK,are you sure?
I dunno few months back ,a picture of this gentelman in sitting position was posted as some very high peer in meditation.
I doubt that this is picture of Bahadur Shah zafar.WE all know he was exiled in burma ,Rangoon & died there ,but never have i seen his picture of that era.Photography was not as common in that part of the world in 1857 approx.
Please explain if i am wrong thank you.
barque(bijli) yoon akadti hai apne karname pe ke
jaise phir naya hum aashiyaan bana nahi sakte
wow! I am amazed if that is Bhadur Shah Zafar. This Picture must be very very rare and worth alot if so. But as someone mentioned earlier, it was 1856 / 1857 and photography wasn't that known of around this part of the world.
But still it is a greta picture. But if you judge by looking at the guy. I dont know this guy does have that glare in his what a king or royalty has.
sighhhhhh...
umer e daraaz maang kai laye thay chaar din
do aarzu main katt gaye do intezaar main..
dunno if this pics real....
if it is,, wowwwwww... thanx for sharing.
n i feel sorry for the guy.
well ... this picture is real ... and it was taken in mid-late 1860s....
i have seen this picture in numerous books on british raj.....i have reason to believe it is autentic...i just could never find it on the web.... there is in-fact another pic i will try to search on the web ...firangi mahal (lucknow) after british takeover on 1858....
dont feel sorry for this man....he brought it on to himself....had he sided fully with the revolutionaries we may have thrown out the brits long ago....he was a weakling and as far as being an empror goes his empire was confined to the red fort....even there the brits interfered .....
this picture is to be used as a sign of "ibrat" only..... what happens to weak kings...

wasnt common but it did exist. ive seen some really old pics of the subcontinent. its not that implausible
ok soo is that sheesha he's smoking or just regular hooka ??
This user is finally chillin in the *City of Gold !! *
What’s the difference between sheesha’s and regular hooka?
Just for research purposes.
Painting of Bahadur Shah Zafar:
Interesting question. Well I think the difference is what you put in it. In places like India, Pakistan they put tobacco and likewise it is referred to as Hookah over there. In a lot of Mid East countries they smoke fruit flavoured tobacco and it is reffered to as sheesha over there. Anyway the concept is the same. I could be wrong though but that’s what i think.

fruit flavoured tobacco? yara.. tell me sumthin'.. is it like 'sweet' in taste then and HARMLESS for u in THAT case?
tapish soorajj ki hoti hay,
jalna zameen ko parta hay,
qusoor aankhon ka hota hay,
tarapnaa dill ko parta hay...
As far as I know Bahadur Shah Zafar didn't agree to become King but people forced him to become one.
He suffered a lot during his imprisonment in Rangoon, Burma (Myanmar) especially I cannot imagine what would have gone through his mind when, one morning for breakfast, he was presented head and blood of his two sons.
Also, the story about his daughter, wife and son-in-law running from the Palace is heart-breaking.
I can't wish such type of life even to my worst enemy.
well his fate shows that heredity should not be a factor of merit.... this man had ancestors like babar, akbar shah jahan...who ruled all of india....but this man was so pitiful he could not even control his own house (red fort)......
let the ppl understand that lesson when they choose their leaders just b/c of their parents (e.g. benazir).... if lineage counted bahadur shah would have been a grand king......
He looks strikingly similar in both these images. Very good artist I must say.
The picture above HAS to be legit.
Gayi ek be ek jo hawa palat,
Nahin dil ko mere qaraar hai.
Karoon gham sitam ke main kya bayan,
Mera gham se seena fugar hai.
(Little by little, the wind of fate changed,
I lost all hope
How can I describe the great pain,
My heart is wounded by grief.)
Kya riyaya-i-hind tabah hui,
Kaho un peh kya yeh jafaa hui.
Jise dekha hakim-i-waqt ne,
Kaha yeh to qabil-i-daar hai.
(How cruelly have the Indians been ruined,
Can one describe the enormity of the pain?
The new rulers, send every one to be hanged,
And say "surely, this one deserves the gallows!")
Yeh sitam kisi ne bhi hai suna,
Ke di phaansi laakhon ko begunah;
Use kalmagoyon ki taraf se,
Abhi dil peh un ke ghubaar hai.
Has anyone heard of such oppression,
Of hanging the innocent in lakhs?
No doubt, they have malice in their hearts,
Against the Mussalmans!)
Yahan hal-i-tang khushi ka hai,
Woh karishma qudrat-i-rabb ka hai,
Yahan bahar men to khizan hui,
Wahan khizan men un ko bahar hai
(There is no joy here at all,
Such is the amazing fate.
For us, spring has turned into fall,
And for them (the Englishmen), autumn has turned into spring!)
Khatka nahin Zafar tujhe,
Jo Khuda kahe tujhe barmala;
Tujhe hai waseela rasool ka,
Wo tumhara hami kar hai.
(O Zafar! you need have no fear in front of the Divine Tribunal,
To give account openly before Allah on the Day of Judgment;
You can count on the Prophet's intercession;
He is your supporter and savior.)
Kya bood wo baash poochhte ho poorab ke sakino,
Ham ko ghareeb jaan ke hans hans pukarke;
Dehli jo ek shahr tha alam men intikhaab,
Rahte the muntkhib duniya ke jahan rozgaarke,
Falak ne loot kar use wiran kar diya,
Ham rahnewale hain us ujde diyar ke.
(What silly questions you ask, O! residents of the east!
You see us poor and so joke about us;
There was a town called Delhi, the chosen of the world,
The world's best used to live there to earn living,
The heavens have ruined it and
We are the residents of that ruined city!)

This verse is by Mir Taqi Mir , when mir went to lucknow after sack of delhi by Nadir Shah....he went to a mushaira where ppl made fun of his looks and he said
"kya bood o baash poocho ho porab kay sakina
hum ko ghareeb jaan kay hans hans pukar kay
dilli jo ik shahr tha aalam mein intikhab
rahtay thay jahan muntakhib he rozgaar kay
uss ko falak nay loot kar veeran kar diya
hum rahany walay hain ussi ujrae dayar kay"
o easterns what question u ask about my livelihood
treating me as a miserable person...making fun of me
delhi was a city best in the world
where best of the best lived
fate has destroyed it
i am a native of that ruined city
