Baghdad or Bust: Forces 60 miles away.

Around 60,000 Iraq troops await the Coalition. Should be very very ugly.

Blair: Baghdad battle ‘imminent’

March 24 — With advance elements of the American invasion force now engaging Iraqi Republican Guard units south of Baghdad, U.S. and British troops struggled on Monday to put down Iraqi forces bypassed during the swift advance north. Officials on both sides insisted their forces had gained the upper hand, with Iraq highlighting American casualties and U.S. commanders dismissing Iraqi resistance as “sporadic.” Britain’s Prime Minister Tony Blair said the battle for Baghdad was imminent. “This will be a crucial moment,” he said.

Meanwhile the enemy lingers neglected far behind the column...

You have to secure a problem territory after subduing it and before you move on; otherwise it will regenerate. This is where we are screwing up. Our promise of a quick war is forcing the uniformed planners to half-ass their jobs. I think Um Qaysr and Naseriya illustrate this all too well.

spoon how do u know that those locations are not being secured? just cuz its not stated plainly does not mean they are not trying to secure those areas.

I heard on TV (yes i still watch the boob tube) that some General outlined the tactics as “Bump and Go” borrowing from football i presume.. where when you meet a pocket of defense, you engage it with minimal forces and take the main column of your forces ‘around’ it till you meet some more resistance and repeat.

the only thing I’m worried about is reaching Baghdad and realizing u’re outnumbered!!!

I think it's going to get pretty messy 60,000 may be a conservative estimate. Apparently the most powerful republican guards divisions holed up with possibly more armour than the allies.

US forces forced to retreat from Basra. :)

BBC reports that Russian experts are helping the Iraqis with night vision and electronic warfare.

Bush spoke to President Putin and the conversation became "emotional" the BBC reports.

MSNBC showed a small electronic box (photo from russian tech show) that said to jam GPS signals. russia has been accused of supplying it.

hold on a sec..

russian military experts or experts that happen to be russian? just wanted to clarify.

Fraud,

I don't think it matters as long as it is being done with Moscows blessing.

Reportly within 20 miles and the Medina Republican Guard is no longer.

Time to stock up on popcorn and candy.

I will wait 2 to 3 days to believe it.

I agree with Changez.

I'll also wait.

Because I'm sure Basra was taken and secured approximately 8 days ago?

I don’t have much confidence in the Iraqi soldiers as good/brave soldiers. The wars with Israel have proven that almost all other Mid-Eastern armies are not up to scratch.

The only hope Iraq has is for a prolonged war close and inside cities.

Here is a :flower1: for those offended by my personal views…

Thats what they said too, but few days later they changed their statements.

UTD, Yogi. Opposition you see on this forum is not because people are pro-Saddam, but its because of illegal, unjust invasion. Even the oppressed Iraqi people are opposing coalition forces. Why is it so hard to digest?

betay, we would have fallen for this line if we did not read these forums before talk of this war started. Some of the most vicious anti-war posters on this forum have been anti-american for years, even long before 9/11.

200 yards is it now?
