At least 132 people have been killed in a series of blasts in the Shia Sadr City area of the Iraqi capital, police and medical sources say.
Details are still sketchy, but a further 200 people were reportedly wounded in three car bombs and at least one mortar blast.
In one attack a car exploded at a food market which is a regular target of mainly Sunni Muslim insurgents.
Elsewhere, gunmen attacked the health ministry, sparking battles with guards. In Sadr City, a car exploded in the Jamila food market, where eyewitnesses told reporters burned bodies and human flesh littered the ground.
It has become such a mess that no one knows what to do or what can be done. And this was country that had a million expatriate workers, such was its riches. Just shows what foriegn interference can do to a country.
Both Afghanistan and Iraq had to pay the price of superpower's dirty tactics. Afghanistan too was quite a successful economy, b4 russians started their dirty business then US backed resistance and then chaos.
It just keeps repeating and repeating. I share ehsan comments.
I see the blame for these killings is still falling on the U.S. by some, does that make you feel better? The U.S. goes into a country overthrows a brutal dictator and then Sunnis start killing Shi'ites, did the U.S. make a mistake going into Iraq? Yes, but blaming the U.S. for these bombings ignores the real problem, let's correctly place blame on the right parties involved if that what you want to focus on.
Reall really sad. What would it take for the 'insurgents' to realise how important a life is? They don't have to kill civilians in order to 'negotiate' with 'foreign-troops/powers' for peace/their-share etc..
utd I dont blame US or Iraqi govt for the riots, they are not responsible for the actions of idiotic militants who are hell bent on eradicating each other’s community. The responsibility of the action is solely on these groups. I do however hope and wish that there was tighter law enforcement by US forces as well as the Iraqi forces to try and limit these idiot militants from going around and blowing up people on a daily basis.
Aside from arabs and Iranians, this needs to become a UN effort…help bring all parties to the table and try and resolve this. There is no end in sight otherwise
THIS BOMBING IS NOT THE FAULT OF USA. Why would someone say that? or even think that? The sunni extremists are the blame for the carnage in iraq.
The shias and kurds were happy with saddam gone. Together they compromised 82 percent of iraq (including moderate sunnis). the only people that were unsettled by saddam being gone were extremist sunnis and baathists.
the extremists are slowly but surely sliding into hellish oblivion. May they reach their goal soon.
it was basically one type of government which played favourite to one and oppressed the other
that could be true only for Saddam's era, what about pre-Saddam? and pre-pre-Saddam?
I meant that whatever regional influence and oversight needs to be factored, needs to be under UN actions and with UN approval, and not just like som cowboys running to save the day.
