Re: Bad thoughts
hadeeth uThaa kar maari naheeN jaati.
hadeeth are the words of Rasoolulah:saw:
you show some respect to them.
Re: Bad thoughts
AQ is the one who prances about here as if he's an expert on religious matters. Hence, if he claims something, he should be quoting references as well. I am posting from common knowledge. Like if you got into a car crash by accident and someone else dies, but your intention was not to kill them, and you were driving appropriately, the sin is not upon you as a murderer.
Likewise, if you are distributing charity, but your intentions are not good and you are trying to be political about it and gain popularity for yourself, like to win an election, then your bad intentions override the fact that your action was good.
Intentions are paramount to actions. I thought that was a basic principle of Islam. Its taught in every Islamic school around here.
Now, if there is a difference between a nafs, which is controllable, and the actual bad thought, then please do explain that difference. I thought they're both the same.
Re: Bad thoughts
Coming of bad thought is not sinful for it is from Shaitaan. Acting upon it is sinful and if CONTROLLED, it can become a source of Sawaab.
Re: Bad thoughts
But then what is this other guy saying about how you can control your "nafs" ? That I can control myself not to think these thoughts, by convincing myself they are the wrong thoughts or admonishing myself in my thoughts when thinking these thoughts to the point that I condition myself not to think these thoughts anymore.
I know it can be done. I do it myself all the time.
Re: Bad thoughts
Masha Allah. May ALLAH:swt: reward you for that.
My personal understandings are contrary otherwise.
Re: Bad thoughts
correct.
You are giving an example when bad intention was followed by “good” action, this is where you apply the hadith “innamal a’maalu binniyaat”, so his good action is lost because his intention wasn’t “good”
Re: Bad thoughts
You can control your nafs to the extent that it will reject a bad thought as soon as it appears in your mind, but I think its not possible to NEVER have ANY bad thoughts about anything in life.

There is tonnes of stuff on this fiqhi issue on sunnipath.com and with full details by qualified scholars of Islam, based in many countries.
