At the post office today, me and my (Indian/Malay mix) friend parked our cars and were walking towards the PO that has two door entrance, you know the kind that is suppose to be more energy efficient. By the time we got to the door we saw a lady pacing towards us. As I wasn’t in a hurry I kept the back door open and gestured towards her to go ahead and she pleasantly replied with a Thanks. And as she entered from the first door, struggling to find something in her hand bag, my friend leapt forward to open the next door for her. She replied with a warm “Wow, THANK YOU”. And then asked us “Where are you guys from?”
“I grew up in Malaysia” replied my friend.
“That explains it”, making a distinctive face, “I know an Indian would never do that”.
“Yeah, I know .. and he is from Pakistan” replied my quick wit friend with a big grin. And went on to bad mouth the Indians for another five minutes while we all waited in the queue. Turns out, her mothers’ from India and her Dads’ a white dude.
Anyway, I didn’t know Indians had such a bad reputation. The ones I have met are generally very polite and wouldn’t mind opening the door for a woman.
See here is the problem.
We indians are getting badnam because of many ill-mannered Pakistani.s Thing is that It is not easy to distinguish between Indian and Pakistani if you are a gora so we Indian get blamed many times.
Jokes apart,… This was just an stupid comment by her. These kind of blanket statements are always stupid. There are illmannered people in all culture and nationalities. Also if you are in USA , usually when they say Indians here they basically mean all South Asians. Pretty much what “Paki” means in UK.
^ it wasnt stupid, most desi men wouldnt do that and i am not talkin about westernized desi men, i am talkin about the ones in pakistan and india. Even though we are suppose to be more polite (following our prophet (pbuh) ), other ppl r so much more sweeter and well mannered.
