I would make my decision based on these points:
Does it affect them?
Will they find out from outside sources?
If you have some bad news, do you share it with your family, or do you hide it from them so they don't get stressed out for you?
Well ofcourse its hard but i m sure if its imp enuff to be a bad news, it wl be imp enuff to be told too. How can u hide imp stuff from family?!.........unless ofcourse its not something major at all n u can do without it being discussed n told.

That all depends upon what news is it. You just cant define a rule for all sorts of sad news whether to hide or share.
From my experiences I've learnt that most of the times its better to keep the news with myself and deal with it.
