Iran will sell its gas to partner countries of the Nabucco gas pipeline project, an Iranian economic relations undersecretary told a news conference today.
A Reuters report quoted the official as saying the deal with Turkey to sell gas and develop Iranian gas fields will not affect an Iranian deal with Austria.
Late last week Turkish Energy Minister Hilmi Guler signed a memorandum of understanding with Iranian officials which will see state-run TPAO to produce 20 billion cubic metres of natural gas in three phases in Iran’s South Pars gas field.
The plans also include an agreement to use Iran as a transit country for Turkmen natural gas.
Austria’s OMV is in talks with Tehran to develop an area of the same gas field, build a liquified natural gas terminal there and export the fuel.
Re: Bad News for Israel - Europe is going to depend on Iran for gas
I'm not sure how that's bad news for Israel. It should be good news for Iran because its Oil will now have an official consumer, which means it will be safeguarded against Israeli aggression by Europe and Russia.
Europe currently gets its oil from Russia via Ukraine.
It’s bad news for Zionist regime because if Iran does start supplying gas to Europe then Europe will start to depend on that oil; and in future before taking any political actions against Iran Europe would have to keep in mind its impact on its oil supply from Iran.
This also will also cause further failure to American (read Israeli) strategy of isolating Iran from the world stage.
As expected, US does not like Iran’s participation in this project:
Iran’s possible participation in the planned Nabucco natural gas pipeline project for Europe is not welcome, U.S. officials said.
Matthew Bryza, a top U.S. envoy to Europe, said at an international energy summit in Turkey that U.S. President Barack Obama did not favor any Iranian involvement in Nabucco, the Azeri Press Agency reports.
The “Obama administration does not take positive approach toward participation of Iran in the project at present,” he said.
