What would you do if you really like someone (ie you have similar interest, moods, religious feelings, & family values) & wanted to marry her/him BUT when you got the results of the isthakara it came out really bad???(ie that either that your life together would be unhappy)
would you be upset?
would you do the isthakara again?
would you accept it happily knowing something better must be in store for you?
would you ignore the isthakara and proceed with the rishta anyway?
You should do the istakhara for at atleast 7 days. Sometimes
the visions of the dream can be better interpreted by an imam or
someone with a better and clearer knowledge of Islam than us.
If the visions in your istakhara come out negative then maybe what
you might think best for yourself might not be so in reality. I have
known of a friend who went ahead with their own intentions despite
the clear negative hinting of the istakhara but later regretted the decision
tremendously. I think I remember reading a saying of Prophet Muhammad
SAW which contexts to something like, "it's the badbakhti of children of adam
not to do istakhara." Afterall, Allah knows what no one else can.

Isthkera is a kind of pray... you read this if you have a question or confused about something so you pray this and Allah meeya will show you in dreams what is good or what is bad :) dont know the procedure though...

Oh I see. So you do a istinja before the isthkera? I dont understand the praying while you sleep concept?
I thought you do a wudu and pray, well if you are praying in sleep and fart then obviously your prayer is mukroo so help me here?
Either you should not do istikhara but if you do it then you should have the strength to accept it. YOu can do istikhara as long as you dont get any result. But once you get the result, then you should go with that decision. Alllah will give you satisfaction and you will be satisfied.
There are many types of istakhara out there. Have you read any hadees that you are suppose to do it like this? I mean the one where you have dream? This way has been told by someone else saying that Prophet SAW used to do it this way. But my mom read a hadees in Bukhari Shareef by Maulana Modoudi that you read the duwa-e-istakhara which states that whatever step I'm going to take, if it's bad for me then take me off the track and if it's good then give me the ability and power to move on. Bas. No statement there says that you'll have a dream at night or what so ever. I have the duwa for the one I told you about. If you're interested to do this one then let me know. If it really is bad in your case then Allah will take you off the track.
^ u r right that it is not necessery to have a dream. b4 my mum used to think that u have to do istikhara over 7 days again that is false because a friend of hers to make the intention of doing a one day istikhara and the results were clear in the dream sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo after that now my mum just does a one day istikhara.
the whole point of istikhara is to get guidence from all. if he has showed u there is something better then its kind of wrong to go against ur own creator. thats y the istikhara dua has a part where it says oh allah plz make me content with what ever decision i make due to the istikhara.

If it was me, like many of you all said I would accept what Allah (SWT) said & move on with my life.
I think Isthkara is very complicated. You dont just pray and expect a loud and clear yes or no to just be shouted towards you. Its a lot more than that and when done properly - which in my view is quite tough - Im sure the results would be correct.
Plus we dont know for sure what will be best for everyone. What seems to us as a problematic future, might actually be quite different in reality when it does come around.
Exactly. I did it once and I went against it. It was that I had to chose one of the two colleges. I saw it clearly not to chose college A, whereas I was very eager to go to college A. And so I went, but just after month, I had to leave it as i realized it was not the right chice and joined college B, but due to late decision, I had to pay alot.
I thoguth Isthikhara was only for when you had doubts and were not able to choose between a number of paths.. I just feel if I was as sure as you I would probably not have done isthikhara because I didnt have two paths...
But now that you have done it, I would just accept what you saw if it was soooooo clear and just realize that you will understand this sometime in ur life.
yes GB u r right, you should not do isthakara if u already have choosen a way & if you dont think u can accept the ruling.
if u get a judgement that doesnt seem to make sense, you should remember that it may not make sense now, but in the future it will most likely become evident. After all we dont have all the the facts with us, only HE knows all.
my experience and understanding of isthikhara is that if you read the translation of the dua...
you are asking god in his wisdom and vast knowlege and greatness to make this endeavor happen/easy for me IF it is good for you and your ultimate end..if NOT then make me move away from it and be at ease...
If it's supposed to happen it will fall into place....if not you will see wall after wall AND you emotionally will have trouble..
i.e. my husband and my marriage took some work BUT nothing that made us super stress out or seem wrong...or reallydifficult..just small bumps
I didn't know istikharas were for any reason but for marriage. And I dont know what I would do if it said negative to marrying my fiance. Somehow its ritual in Pakistan to do it before marriage no matter how sure you yourself are of it. Families check by it. And the istikharas aren't done by themselves but by some learned person, some imam or something.
