Bad CPU or Faulty MOBO?

Ok, so my computer crashed the other night and I went through a sereis or steps to isolate the issue (including new PSU) and now its down to CPU or mobo. One of the two are obviously faulty.

Here is the whole story:

Bad PSU or what? - Virtual Dr Forums-Computer Tech Support

Please advice what I should do.

Re: Bad CPU or Faulty MOBO?

From the link within that link, it seems that your mobo is about 2 years old, You bought that from newegg in 2007. I am not computer expert but my computer was doing the same thing. It seems at the end that my mobo was too weak (or had some hardware support issues) and was kind of short circuiting. I dumped the whole computer and bought a brandname desktop from an electronic store.

Re: Bad CPU or Faulty MOBO?

Well, visit the closest Microcenter and buy a CPU and plug it in, so then you'd know which of the 2 is causing the issue :D

^ Electricute myself and then sue the Electric company. ;)

Re: Bad CPU or Faulty MOBO?

Check the capacitors on the CPU fan power connection. Also monitor the voltage on the CPU fan power connector.

These varying voltages are mostly caused by either a capacitor or an inductor failure.

My motherboard also failed recently where a capacitor on the AGP connection burst (yes AGP!).
