Do you think the people in the forum (everyone) should set the rules or the moderators?
When it comes to standing up for your rights are people afraid to voice their real opinions?
Why is it wrong to have a discussion about a complaint someone has about the forum? and why do mods say if u have a complaint send it to us (meaning do not discuss it here, send it to us so we can ignore it)!
Don you have a rather strange habit of repeating yourself.
m-warrior, the forum is there for people to voice their concerns and suggestions. Although the general rules of civility still apply.
as far as setting the rules, the rules are set not by moderators but by admins, mods just get stuck with enforcing the rules, although they can give admin their feedback about it, and so can the members.
Now the admins do not make the rules on their own, but they work in conjunction with the management of the website, which would include Azkar, Muzna and Kamal. These guys follow general industry guidelines which are also reviewed by the legal advisors.
so now that you know how general policies get formed, you can go ahead and kick the mods for enforcing them, or you can pass your suggestions to the GS admins.
On a number of items GS admins have complete control, on some they have to talk to pak.org mgmt, and in some cases it takes time.
Now if your issue is not with a policy itself but with some other complaint about a moderator, would it not be better to email the moderator to clear the issue, or email the mods boss, i.e. the admin rather than having a public lynching? :)
Gupshup user “M-WARRIOR”: I don’t think that letting members set the rules will work, it simply is too difficult. There are too many limitations and restrictions. It will take too far to mention all those here, but if you’re really interested I might give you an out-line.
so it easily follows that the combined forces of Mods/Admins should set the rules; of course there should be room for members to voice their concern; and with respect to that the Feedback Forum is a major step forward :k:
And as far as standing up for ones rights is concerned: I don’t think people are afraid in the sense that they are afraid to make the Mods/Admins angry, it’s more that those members are reluctant to express their concerns, perhaps on the basis of practical reasons: here again the introduction of an “open” Feedback Forum is a great step in the right direction.
Perhaps you may want to have a look at the great diversity of the various topics started in this forum and the great variety of posters :k:
The reason the Mods say that a PM should be sent to them is simple: it’s NOT to neglect that complaint/concern, but it has practical reasons:
the original thread can continue without the interference of another discussion
it is easier for both the Mod and the poster to use PM
you don’t have to be afraid of unwanted interference by other users, who might divert the discussion away.
only negative aspect which might be pointed out is that it’s not open: the serious input from other members can be missed: This again is quite elgantly solved by this Feedback Forum.
