Bacheha - Ye Aseman (Children of Heaven)

Ok, so this is a 1997 movie from Iran. But yesterday it poured rain all day here so we sat down and watched this movie in Farsi with English subtitles. These Iranians make such first class movies on such simple stories it puts Bollywood to shame. No special effects, no songs, no gaudy mahals or scantily dressed actresses. Just fantastic movie making. If you have kids (Aezaj bhai, I am thinking of you) go rent it. Just to let you know what other people thought of it:

academy award <1>: best foreign language film (nom)
los angeles international film festival <1> : grand jury prize (nom)
montreal world film festival <3> : ecumenical prize (won), grand prix des ameriques (won), public prize (won)
newport international film festival <1> : best foreign film (won)
singapore international film festival <1> : silver screen award - best asian feature film (won)

I saw a turkish movie some months ago which had a pretty serious subject but it was so funny (situational) commedy. All the actors had a excellent sense of timing and overal a brilliant movie.
It had some touching light moment. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

Iranian do make good movies. They get fame for their quality from world over :k:
