baby's nose

I took my daughter for check-up again 2 days back in a new clinic. Now the nurse over there was very talkative and she started telling me that my daughter’s nose is okay from the tip but flattened around the eyes area. Meaning she does not have the so called “khari naak” . Now she is not the only one who has said that someone from my mom’s side also said it. They said that we should have had lifted her nose by rubbing with fingers in upward direction. I have heard about it. My daughter’s father & his family was alot into these things and used to ask people how they lift baby’s nose!

Now , certainly I don’t like when people comment in such a way about my baby. I have never noticed naak naksha in anybody how can my daughter’s naak naksha bother me ?

Have any of you done the above on your baby’s nose ? My baby looks just fine to me and I love her the way Allah has made her and love every bit of her.

Re: baby's nose

I don't know whether it works or not, but I'd ignore the stupid comments. I don't understand the universal concept of beauty, as if there are only certain ways to look beautiful.

Ignore it.

Re: baby's nose

The nurse probably mentioned it out of concern about possible genetic syndromes that are associated with a flattened nasal bridge. The thing is though, that its associated with down's syndrome and williams syndrome, neither of which your daughter has - you would be able to just look at her and see that. Its also quite common in asians to have a flattened nasal bridge. So she shouldnt have said anything. It also grows so dont listen to comments people make, just tell them that she's beautiful and perfect just the way she is.

Re: baby's nose

She's still a baby!!!! All babies noses are like that until they are at least 1 year old and they continue to develop and change until the are at least 2 years old. Jeez, people can be so stupid. I would ignore them.

Hah! Its all nonsesne IMHO. That khari naak thing I didn't do for my daughter and when I took her to Pakistan my MIL started off on how her nose is flat. Then she did some stuff to make it khari huee or whatever, then she said her nose is fine now..... I think its just natural, as the babies grow their noses also change shape or something, they gorw out longer I guess... my mom says she never did anything for our noses and all us sibling have nice looking noses (my MIL also commented look your nose is so nice, while the baby's is flat and I was like hehhehehe, little you know my mom didn't do ANYTHING) ..... khair just ignore it, chill and don't get mad about it..... ek kaan sai suno doosray sai nikaalo..... every baby is beautiful and all this naak shaak and gora rang stuff is all superficial nonsense.

Re: baby's nose

its common in our desi culture... the khari naik, gol sir, hairless body, gori chamri. etc etc.. and the totkas to get the baby there in all those dept.. hehe...

like someone else said up there.. listen to all and think nothing of it

Re: baby's nose

it is one thing to dismiss the kind of nonsense that people shove in your face when you are a first-time and new mom.....

it is entirely another to dismiss as myths the "desi totkay" that our parents and their parents used to use......

I, for one, have found many "home remedies" to be quite useful.

Re: baby's nose

ya but in this regard, i find them silly. like putting a plate under the baby's head to make it circular.. or pressing on the bridge of hte nose when the baby is a newborn trying ot shape it... jeez.. its a baby.. its gonna change a millino times before its bones get set.

:k:

Re: baby's nose

Oh my.. how can people point out these things in BABIES? Babies are angels and the most cutest thing on a baby is their NOSE hands and feet. Oh myyyyyy!!!!!!
The only thing i've heard was the flattening the head nonsense. Please. Leave the baby alone. All babies are perfect!

Re: baby's nose

lol what a nurse. change your clinic.

I was told the same thing about my son's nose and even his complexion :S ....I couldnt care less....I think we should all just let nature take it course...and do not mess with their noses, head shapes, etc etc because if you look around, you dont see many uneven heads...
Having said that, some desi totkas definitely work...

Re: baby's nose

I was told the same thing about one of my girls as well as if u massage her nose upwards, it will get kharified. Well I didn't and the freak that I am, I was scared I might end up messing with her cartliage so I let it be. If Allah wanted to give her a khari nose, he would have, Im not going to act ungrateful and complain about the nose.

Re: baby's nose

The jahaalat of desi elders never ceases to amaze me.
