Dear guppy parents in states,
I need to buy some good baby stuff as a gift for a newborn in family. The baby and his family live in states so I was basically thinking of shopping online and getting it delivered to them. But I’m not familiar with good places for this stuff in States so need your help, please.
I’d also welcome the ideas for stuff…I’m not really a fan of usual clothing type gifts. The family is among our first relations so need something great and useful.
Re: Baby stuff
Check Babiesrus.com or buybuybaby.com or amazon.com. Do they have a registry?

Oh also try potterybarnkids.com

Re: Baby stuff
Sounds odd but we haven’t discussed the budget yet. It’s my SIL’s first baby n hubby being the eldest mamooN to baby, we want to really celebrate. I was thinking along the lines of a travel system but for that will need to consult SIL as I surely need to know her preference first. We want to keep it a surprise gift though, so that’s the problem. Hubby suggested buying clothing but I’m soooo not into that stuff somehow. Wanted something useful so they can remember mamooN’s love for the years to come
Re: Baby stuff
Oh sorry, forgot to say thanks for your input, ladies.
SO2, I’m not aware if they have a registry but my gut feeling is that they don’t have.
Re: Baby stuff
I would ask and encourage a baby registry. You can keep something smaller as the surprise, but let the main gift be something they’ve selected themselves.
Both Janie and Jack and Potter Barn kids do monogrammed gifts, which are nice.
Re: Baby stuff
yep see if they have a baby registry and if not, why not send them a gift care for Target or Amazon and ask them to purchase something they need for the baby, like stroller, swing, high chair etc.
Re: Baby stuff
If you want to buy clothing, carters.com has good stuff.
Re: Baby stuff
YES CARTERS – I love them because they are so easy to put on and off.
They truly cater to the kiddies.
The stuff doesn’t last but who cares the kids grow out of it anyway.
Re: Baby stuff
Great options girls!

We have finally decided on sending them a gift card so they can buy something good of their own choice. Can’t go the “surprise gift” route! ![]()
Re: Baby stuff
^^I think that was the right thing to do.If I were to send something meaningful to my niece/nephew I would have preferred sending money too so they can get something major for the baby…like swing/crib/stroller/travel system etc, instead of the usual clothes. And I understand about the surprise element not being there but,oh well…
There will be many other occasions like Eid,birthdays etc to send surprise gifts,iA.

Personally however, I like doing whole selection, packing, making card and stuff. It adds a touch of love. Only if they lived near by …
Re: Baby stuff
^ I think you should still get something small and special. Maybe upon the baby’s birth.
As for the gift card, it’s definitely a good idea, but I would recommend you saying you want them to put it toward 1-2 specific big items, so that they are still reminded of you guys when they use those items. Also being a first time parent is so overwhelming, that sometimes you even lose track of gift cards and things, so this will also help them remember it.

The baby is already there! Yeah, actually it’s us who got the surprise. ![]()
We had absolutely no clue if they are going to have a baby.
Last week in early hours of morning we got a text from “baby” saying salamis to us with a pic and both of us had to sit up and check if it’s for real or we are dreaming.
Initially we thought of showing up at their place in States on the day when they come back from hospital, but a flight of 11 hours and my health issues atm just stopped us from that.

Budget?

We are flexible on budget.
Talked to SIL last night and they want to buy a crib. She didn’t think of getting it earlier so she hasn’t done any research on it. She asked me to look for it as she wasn’t sure.
What do you guys suggest?. A convertible crib or small crib with storage side/changing table??
Re: Baby stuff
I would suggest a convertible crib unless they have a space issue.
ps. Congrats on the new baby in the family! ![]()
