Baby Showers

How many people in our community actually have baby showers?

I have noticed that they are becoming more common in the west among asians. I was thrown mine a couple of weeks ago by my closest friends. It was pretty good fun especially as it was a total surprise. Have you had yours yet Muzna?

No shahreen, not yet.

In my immediate family, we don't even start buying things for the baby until at least seven months are up.

A friend of mine is planning for January as hubby is away in UK for a couple of months now.

How did your shower go? What did you get? What did your friends do at the shower?

It went really well, all my friends got together and presented me with gifts and we had a party. I got the usual baby stuff but some of the presents i got were more for me which was nice ie I got a weekend trip to a spa which is valid for a year.

congratulations! "lot of hugs"
when r u due Muzna?

what are baby showers?

That sounds great shahreen! Especially the day at the spa. My friend is pushing me to register for the baby shower at some store....but we (i.e. Ibrahim and I) have this hang-up about receiving gifts and not having the opportunity to return the favour so we are looking for something to give to each of the people that attend the shower. Some sort of gift that they can take away and have as a keepsake to remind them of the event. Perhaps a crystal vase or something like that. I'm still shopping so if anyone thinks of any ideas, do let me know.

Thanks Dhoop....we're due on Feb. 2/03 inshallah.

Shahreen, are you due around the same time? I think we are two weeks apart, aren't we?

Muzna, yes we are due around the same time, my due date is 9th Feb. My friends want me to hold it in so its a valentines baby! You're going to have to make a start on that shopping soon, its getting closer.

I like your idea of giving people a keepsake. As I mentioned my baby shower was a surprise one but my friend who organised it gave people who attended these really nice silver photo frames. I like your idea of the crystal vase too.

Baby showers are quite common where I live, in the tri-state area of USA.
