baby shower

What is a good dinner menu for a baby shower?

Re: baby shower

Daytime or night time?

Just women or full dawat with all family members?

All desi guests or mixed?

Menu should suit the tastes and match the guests

The last baby shower I went to was in the afternoon, for ladies only (married and un married) and the menu was:

punch
mini desserts (tirimisus, trifle, bread pudding…all in individual mini cups)
asst petit fours
chicken salad
pasta bake
goat cheese w/pepper jelly served with crackers
fruit salad
bruschetta
mini sandwiches (egg salad/cucumber)

It was all very light and refreshing…perfect for a casual afternoon affair

And then I’ve been to baby showers at night which were full on desi dawats with all the biryani/qorma type dishes

Re: baby shower

Re: baby shower

Is there a theme? Do want a western menu or desi? You can do a mix of both…

-set up a “chaat bar” have bowls and platters of seperate chaat ingredients and let everyone make their own (chickpeas, diced onion, diced tomatoes, boiled and diced aloo, sev, papdis, chutneys, dahi etc)

-chicken 65 or Chili Chicken

-samosas & pastry puffs filled with keema & veggie spring rolls

-fried rice

I did this menu at an evening baby shower for a friend and it was a HUGE hit! We had about 35 people and they couldn’t stop raving about the uniqueness of the chaat bar. Even though it sounds simple, it was very filling! For desserts, we did a mini dessert bar/buffet.

Thanks for all these suggestions I will be drafting something up soon and all these are really helpful. I’m not too worried about appetizers but what are some good entertaining side dishes for lasagna?

Re: baby shower

can I ask a slightly unrelated question to all those who have attended/organised a shower:

who is supposed to organise the shower, and ahem… who is supposed to pay for it?? my nund is due in 3 months, and my sister is due 3 months after her… I want to have a party for both of them (separately…) How do I do it???

Re: baby shower

baby showers are traditionally hosted (and paid for) by the expectant mom’s sisters/cousin/best friend etc..in short, whatever close female relative. In my family (which is quite large) its the naniyal that hosts the baby shower and all mamis/khalas/cousins etc pitch in to help ororganize

In my friends social circle, when someone is expecting we usually have 3-4 friends team up to host and organize together.

If you have 2 separate baby showers to plan, in would suggest recruiting help from other family members or friends on either side. It can be a lot for one person to handle depending on how big you are planning. Or keep it small and intimate.

Re: baby shower

Ooo thanks! I want to but trouble is no-one’s ever done it before so if I approached relatives they’d all be like what?! I shall try anyways

baby shower

In my group of friends…it’s always hosted by on friend but it is a potluck…everyone usually brings a gift . The person hosting decides menu…and who brings what…it’s usually a hit. It’s too much for one person to do everything.

The person hosting.., does decorating, planning…and party favors. However the cooking is done by all friends.

Re: baby shower

^in my social circle I can just imagine everyone being disappointed with this type of baby shower.
