yes it's ggod bharai... but there is a difference.
Ggod bharai - traditionally is done for the first time mom to be... and usually all the women from the girls side of family goto the girl's home AND BRING her over to HER MOM's place for the first baby. This is done at 7 months and she stays at her mom's place until the baby is 40 days old.
**Baby shower: **normally celebrated in the west at 7 months... but it's a party where people bring her gifts for her and her baby to be. Sort of "welcoming" the baby. ... but the girl does not necessarily go to her mom's place to stay there that long.

^ there's no norm for celebrating a baby shower at 7 months.... i've attended showers at 8 months, 9 months, and even after the baby has arrived!
suhaina, baby showers are just parties thrown in the mom-to-be's honour; people celebrate with her, bring her gifts for the new baby, sometimes play baby-themed games, etc. it can be a brunch, lunch, dinner- whatever works!
in jewish culture because of the concept of nazar, they don't celebrate baby showers until after the baby is born.
more and more showers i've attended have gone from being ladies-only events to couples-events, which i really like. after all, the baby is yours and your hubby's, its only fair both of you celebrate its impending arrival with your friends.

you can wear anything and put on as much or as little makeup as you like! there are no rules.

dnt believe in this stuff, let the baby arrive safely first before prancing around celebrating something you havent got yet. dont tempt fate. sounds silly. but its nothing major that cant happen afterwards.

Here in pak there is rasm, and every one celebrate well. Its like mini party function.
So decided to wear kaam wala suit. With light makeup and light jewlery of gold.
A happy moment to celebrate. Wt do u say ???

I had my baby shower when I was 8 months pregnant and it was a couples event and we had great fun. I didn't ask for gifts though, I feel uneasy with the whole concept of asking/telling people what to buy you and the whole focus was merely for us all to get together and have fun before baby arrived.

I love baby showers! I had a surprise one given to me by my mom, sisters and friends...we played fun games, danced (and I was 38 weeks then!!!) and I got tonnes of fun prezzies...some naughty too! Hehe!! Its just a great way to celebrate the arrival of your first born...and my sisters are always looking for excuses to have great girly get2gethers. Lol.
I had my shower a little late i guess but that was because two of my sisters lived abroad and couldn't come before that but i've been to one baby shower that took place after birth too which was great fun.
It's when a party is thrown for a pregnant woman and people come over to congratulate her and bring her gifts. It's usually a ladies only party and women who have given birth before provide advice and tell their own stories to each other.

i dont know i might be a bit of cynic saing this but i think the baby should be born first before u do any kind of parties i know a friend who had a baby shower on a big scale like it was a massive party and less then 3 weeks later she lost her baby after that i just think we should just leave these things until the baby is in the world safe and sound :)

my function of Ggod bahrai has been done. and nw i am at my mom's house.
will go back after delivery and 40 days after it. would be a function again.
