Hi everyone! I hope this thread is okay here. I need help planning my best friends baby shower. She is an American born Pakistani conservative girl and this is going to be a woman’s only event. I need ideas on games and decoration. I need to make this a special event for her with nothing forgotten. She truly deserves it as this has been a hard pregnancy for her and she is the sweetest gal alive! she is having a girl. I don’t want to make the whole room pink. I want it to be something unique and different. I was thinking of having cool favors. One baby shower I went to they handed out porcelain mini boxes shaped like a babies bed with a baby on top and inside was candy shaped like pacifiers and rattles. Was the cutest thing ever! The shower is next month. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!
Re: BABY SHOWER
ooh, i went to a baby shower recently and it was awesome! it was afternoon tea at one of the hotels complete with fresh cream and scones, mini cakes and pastries- it was delicious! definitely consider a mini-food menu. it looks adorable and its fun to eat!
the games were as follows:
sock sorter: buy 12 or so pairs of tiny baby socks, all white but with different patterns, and you can time people as they try to match up the socks. the person who matches them all in the least amount of time wins! it was a really fun game!
baby food taste test: they wrapped some heinz baby jars of food in wrapping paper and passed them around with wooden sticks and everyone had to taste a little bit and write down what flavour they thought it was (squash is disgusting, and so is green beans! berries is goood! haha)
the prizes were chocolate popcorn wrapped in cute little plastic gift bags, tied with a ribbon.
also all the guests got little note cards that were headed "words of wisdom for the new mom". these were collected at the end of the shower and given to the mom-to-be to put into her memory book.
there were all white balloons. the shower colors were bright green and chocolate brown (in the gift ribbons and stationery) since the mom didn't know what she was having. red and teal is also another cute shower combo.
Re: BABY SHOWER
wow those are such great ideas for a baby shower., never been to one but they sound so exicting!
Re: BABY SHOWER
hey, baby showers are such fun. For each game we played the winner pulled a letter out of a hat (we splite consonants and vowels) which we stick on a wall. These were then re-arranged to spell the 'baby's name', and a small prize (compact mirrors/lip glosses/mini bubbles) was given for the winner.
At the one for my cousin the games were:
- As an ice breaker, everyone who arrived anonymously wrote one line on either something my cousin would say, or a line describing her personality/traits as you knew her but things other people may not know i.e.
'I love care bears'
'It took me ages to find a fendi shop' etc etc
These were read out at the start, and my cuz had to guess who said them about her. She won if she got the majority right, so got to pick a letter from the bag, and lost if she got majority wrong, so had to nominmate someone to pick a letter.
Guess the size of the belly. We all cut strips of paper/string guessing the circumference of the mum to be's belly. Catch is your not allowed to measure, or wrap around yourself to estimate. Winner is whoever gets closest and picks a letter.
Dirty nappy. Split the girls into 2 groups, and nominate a team leader. Smear condiments (Ketchup/brown sauce/pesto/mayonaisse etc etc) on a nappy and seal it. Hand out a nappy to each group at a time. They then have 30 seconds to guess the condiment buy sniff, taste and touch only. NOT sight. Winner is whoever guesses the most nappy's right. Team leader selects a letter.
Shopping list bingo. Basically Bingo but with a baby shopping list i.e. milk bottle, nappy, cot etc etc. However each time you tick sometime on your list, you pretend your going into labour/having a twinge. As you tick more items off your list the contractions get worse, and the first person to check all items off shouts 'I'm having a baby'. They get to pick a letter.
Pink the dummy on the baby. Put up a large picture of a baby, and cut our various dummy's which the guests write their names on. Guests are then blindfolded spun and asked to pin the dummy on the baby. Winner is the one who gets closest to the baby's mouth. We picked 2 winners and they selected the 2 letters.
We then re-arranged the letters to spell a 'baby name'.
There was a lot of finger/party food on the table for pick at before the games began and during the games, stuff like cakes/bicuits/chocolates/crisps and dips.
But food was served after games but again simple stuff like kebabs, sandwiches, spring rolls etc etc, followed by a chocolate fountain.
We also got my cuz to cut a cake. Oh and we got my cuz to sit in front of the big baby picture (from pin the dummy on the baby), throughout the day, as it looked good in the pictures and gave her a special seat.
Hope this helps.
Re: BABY SHOWER
^ Those are such great ideas everyone! Thanks. I went to to a baby shower last year where one of the game was similar to the diaper game above. This time though the guests were not blind folded and the diapers had different kinds of chocolate smeared on it. The chocolate was representing "poop!":LB:The guests had to guess what kind of chocolate it was by observing, smelling etc. The different chocolates were snickers, kit kat, hershey etc. My Mom thought it was a gross inappropriate game because the shower was mixed. There were men and women present. It was an okay shower. Any theme suggestions? Don't say care bears or cabbage patch. Have seen them done and are boring. Thanks again!
Re: BABY SHOWER
P.S.- I like some of the food ideas you girls have. I am so tired of desi food. We have it at weddings, birthdays, anniversaries. I mean I love Desi food, don't get me wrong. Its okay to have one Desi party with American food. After all, a baby shower is a western thing and we do live in America!
Re: BABY SHOWER
We didn't do a theme as such, the decor was just kept to pink, but you could opt for purple or something
Re: BABY SHOWER
i also went to a bbq/beach baby shower which was fun as well. the only thing were the bugs cos it was summer time- they were HUGE. and it rained. but other than that, it was fun! lol
