baby shower ideas

Hi all. I am planning a baby shower for my best friend in early Oct. Need some ideas/suggestions. Here’s what I have in mind so far. I realize I have a lot of planning to do in the next few days :bummer:

Venue
We’re going to rent a party room at one of the local community center. It will probably be too chilly to have an outdoor event in Oct.
Any other indoor venue ideas? My house is out because we are moving within a few days of the shower.

Food
We are getting food catered from an indian restaurant - 2-3 appetizers, chicken tikka/butter chicken, a veggie dish, rotis/naan, biryani and a dessert. I plan to also bake a cake or cupcakes for her.

Theme
They’ve not found out the sex of the baby so a blue/pink theme is out. I haven’t really come up with a good idea. The event is going to be co-ed so it has to be something that both gals and guys can dress for. Would love to hear your suggestions..

Games
We’ve decided on the following games:

  1. Nursery rhymes dumb charades
  2. Guess who? People hand over their own baby pics before the party and the rest guess who it is.
  3. Baby words pictionary or scrambled words

Any other games you’d recommend?

Re: baby shower ideas

What about a neutral theme like bumble bee or ladybird or jungle etc for the decor, and just color theme for adults such as pastels or even blue and pink (depending what gender they are guessing for the baby or voting for the baby to be)

^ Nice ideas! Thanks ayeshaz

Re: baby shower ideas

Venue: Party room in one of the guest’s condo building. **Games: Pin the diaper or pacifier on the baby, Guess the baby food etc. ** Theme: Since the shower is happening in October you can do fall colors or you can do gender neutral colors like green and yellow (rubber ducky, froggy etc.)

Re: baby shower ideas

games:
-decorate a onesie. get a bunch of plain white onesies in various sizes. get fabric markers (NOT fabric paint – it’s too messy and dries hard, making it more difficult for the baby to actually wear the onesie) and give every guest one to decorate with cute words/pictures, inside jokes, references to favorite books/tvshows/movies, etc. this “game” is something that actually can be out for people to do in the background as you wait for other guests to arrive, etc. then you can display the completed onesies. you may also want to google for ideas/suggestions.
-guess the baby food flavor. get 4-5 jars of baby food and have people taste and guess each flavor. provide tooth picks that can be used to dip and then disposed. keep most of the flavors simple, one veggie/fruit. maybe have 1-2 that are blends and harder to guess. this is another game that can actually be happening in the background, but you can announce the correct answers and winner at one time.
-guess mama’s belly circumference! take a ribbon and wrap it around mama’s belly. cut the ribbon to the correct length. pass the ribbon around asking everyone to guess the circumference of mama’s belly, by cutting the ribbon to an estimate. closest wins!
