You can sever anything you want. What kind of crowd are you catering too. There's another thread for Eid Party ideas...some good finger food ideas there. But it would be nice to get a cake with a baby theme...they even sell those diaper cakes, depending on where you live. Also you can get mini bottles,pacifiers, diapers etc for the theme. You can do party favors if you like. Have a color theme if its a boy or a girl..or even something tailored to what the mommy to be likes. Hmm.
Well as for ideas you can serve some sort of dip with chips/veggies...like spinach dip, 7 layer bean dip, avocado/artichoke dip etc. You can have a fresh fruit tray. maybe appetizers...desi can be samosay, kebabs, grilled shrimp, cocktail shrimp.
Main food can be lasagne, maybe some chinese rice/noodle dishes...
make a casserole....depends what type of food are you looking for?

I saw this on The Girls next door (ehh was bored, just left the channel on) and okay i’m warning u right now its kinda gross, some might find it funny, alot might not…but ok so they took a buncha chocolate candies (reeses, snickers, musketeers etc) melted them in the microwave and smushed em onto diapers..and i think teh guests had to guess what the candy was, and htey got a prize..

^ i was at a baby shower where the host did the same .. served baby food in diapers. ewwwww
had ti guess which flavor babyfood it was .. also guess the size of the prego's tummy .. in inches. was a cool game..

i did one last year for a friend of mine on her daughter's birth.
arrange from party city - all kindsof themes decorations.
for a group opf 30 people, you can easily have a budget under $300.00 including catered food.
a couple of days before, decorate your friend's house with her sister/ sister in law or husband, and do so as a surprise when she is not home.
have a couple of games, for non parents, to educated themselves on becoming new parents.
invite a clown for the kids to have fun with and play games to keep busy.
have a nice baby shower cake.
gifts for the baby.
and gift for the Mom.
if elders or parents of the couples are there,
do something fun for them, for becoming new grand parents.

^ it is a party thrown for the expecting mother and the unborn child. There's usually lots of food, and ppl bring presents for the Mum and the hone-waala-bacha/ bachi, and sometimes, there r games similar to the nature described above.

Oh and another game played at my baby shower was like this:
in a bowl/wide cup , fill it with rice. Now add like 15-20 safety pins into the dry rice. Pass the bowl around to people so they can take turns. What you do is count to 10 secs and see how many safety pins the person can get out in 10 secs with just 1 hand. Who ever gets the most wins a prize. At my shower my mom had gotten little cute baby items as prizes...also picture frames...big chocolates(jumbo size bars)....and i thought idea was whack but some folks liked it, my mom had little religous books/articles....mini ones.
Also you can set up a really nice book, or stationary paper and ask mothers/ladies for any advice for the mother to be for her baby. YOu can put that together for her as a gift.
Also you can have the guests each bring in a picture of them and the mother to be from before....and put together a collage or a photo album. Its nice memories for the mother to be to have.

Oh and for the belly measuring game what you can do is use a roll of bathroom tissue. Ask people to guess how big the mom's belly is by cutting that much tissue. Then finally measure the expecting mom with the tissue and cut it off. Who ever gets closest to the actual size wins a prize.
OOh n music n drinks are also a fun option for gals getting together. You can make virgin daquiris, margaritas, smoothies etc and serve them bar style.
