Baby Products...

As in shampoos, conditioners, washes, etc etc etc.

Recently, both my sisters have gone organic and natural on just about everything.

My mom, however used plain old Johnson and Johnson’s on us as kids.

Are moms these days conscious of these things?

What products do you guys use for baby’s personal care?

Johnsons and Johnsons is toxic- As Report Reveals Toxic Ingredients in Baby Shampoo, Johnson & Johnson Goes Public with Plans to Clean Up Products - Forbes

I know it smells like classic baby scent but I refuse to use it on my kid.

Even for their baby powder, I always use the one with Corn Starch and not the Talcum Powder since talc is not really meant to be breathed in and how do you avoid that when sprinkling on your baby?

I much prefer Aveeno Baby and for sunscreen, the best one I’ve found is Neutrogena Baby. Its not sticky, sprays on in a very fine mist, and goes up to 100 SPF. Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer® Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 100+ customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings

I’ve also heard very good things about California Baby products.

Re: Baby Products…

I use everything organic and natural on myself as well, so I would certainly do the same for my kids if I ever have them. My friends use a lot of Earth Mama Angel Baby products. Aveeno baby actually has a fairly good safety rating from EWG. The only ingredient of concern really is potassium sorbate.

I would stay away from chemical sunscreens (like Neutrogena) as they can be toxic for adults and children, and go for physical sunscreens. I like badger products, they have very safe ingredients:

Baby Sunscreen Cream SPF30 with Chamomile & Calendula - Natural Zinc Oxide

California baby products are good too.

Re: Baby Products…

I was looking at California Baby…what retailers carry it?

SGC, that’s crazy! I had no idea!

I am planning on using Aveeno and CB…and the idea of corn starch baby powder versus the talc one is great.

So much learning to do…:sigh:

Re: Baby Products…

I always used Aveeno Baby

Re: Baby Products…

If you’re in the states I’ve seen them at Whole Foods and target.

Re: Baby Products…

The only thing that would concern me about Aveeno is that it’s still manufactured by Johnson and Johnson. I’d generally try to avoid any mineral oil based products.

For talc you could try Burt’s Bee Baby Talc.

I’ve also heard good things about Earth Mama Angel Baby. Their baby shampoos/washes are castile soap and I use Dr. Bronner castile soap for myself anyway.

I definitely think using natural oils such as coconut oil would be preferable to moisturisers. I was with my in laws in Pak when my SIL had her baby by C-sec and was confined to the bed, so my MIL and I cared for the newborn. MIL started giving him daily massages with oil after a few days and it really made a difference, I think it was almond oil.

Re: Baby Products…

^ I use organic coconut oil on my nieces and nephew when they stay with me. No baby moisturizers on them.

Someone told me it helps with dry skin on kids. Nephew used to have slight eczema and it helped with it so much.

I don’t know why I forgot about that…lol. And the Burt’s Bee’s products are great too…I use their Royal Jelly face wash.

And I think people use almond oil in Pakistan because its higher in vitamin E so probably really good for baby’s skin, no?

Re: Baby Products…

If I had to do it all over again, I would now definitely stick with natural/organic oils etc rather than any commercial product..thanks to stoppit’s help last year, I started using rose hip oil on my son’s dry scaly spots and it’s worked wonders!

Re: Baby Products…

Yup we use Averno baby only. Love that stuff. Its so gentle and their lotion kept our baby’s dry skin hydrated all day

Re: Baby Products…

I only use double base gel for my baby. She had very dry skin and it helped a lot. I miss the Johnson smell though.
