Baby Organization Ideas

I am not getting a separate dresser…so I was thinking maybe I could do an organization system in our bedroom closet. That way, I save space for other things like the crib or bassinet.

How do you guys have your baby stuff organized?

Any tips/ideas are appreciated!

Re: Baby Organization Ideas

I will be using the space under my bed as storage and I was thinking of getting either the cloth organizers or the metal ones to fix in my closet.

What do you guys say about this:

My closet is a long one…not a walk in. That might be an issue…we have space in there but its not very wide…length wise nice and big though.

Re: Baby Organization Ideas

Hrm, I think a dresser is better because you can use the top of it as a changing table too. And babies don’t really need a lot of hanging space - most of their clothes are folded.

We have a basic three drawer crib from ikea and it’s going to be used for both kiddos inshallah. The older one has outgrown it so his clothes go into the closet directly.

I know you can theoretically change the baby on any surface but after my C, I needed it to be a level surface that i could stand in front of vs. Bending over, and even once I had healed, I preferred the dresser top over the floor or the bed. It does a number on your back and when the explosive poop or projectile pee happens- welllll, you kinda want to contain it as much as possible lol. And lastly, kids are in diapers for a while- and need multiple changes in a day- so that is also a point in favor of a dresser top doubling as a change table IMHO.

It keeps me organized too- I have the changing pad and a basket with diapers, wipes and rash cream on it and it’s all very handy and easy and the baby is safe and secure and not rolling all over the place. Just a thought!

Re: Baby Organization Ideas

Babies also grow out of things fast, so you need a place and a way to organize these clothes (will you keep? donate? etc?).

Each kid has a dresser PLUS things in a closet (I also got those hanging sweater shelves that you just add in a closet, but those are better for clothes as they get older. Infant clothes are tiny). It just all starts adding up and it makes my life simpler to have clear, designated space. Within most drawers there are bins to separate tiny items.

Can you put a small/lightweight dresser in the closet – or some sort of drawer/bin system?

Re: Baby Organization Ideas

You don’t need formal baby furniture as far as a dresser. We used those cheap plastic drawer bins from target and put them in our closet. They are stackable and don’t look altogether horrid and because they are stackable, you can expand your storage as your needs grow. Because they are transparent, you can mostly see which drawer has what. A drawer or two for onesies, a drawer for coats and cold weather cover ups, a drawer for socks, a drawer for shirts, a drawer for pants, a drawer for matched outfits, etc, you get the idea. Also, as S02 mentioned, keep a 1.5 Cu Ft cardboard box somewhere in a storage room or something for clothes that are too small. As soon as you notice that baby has outgrown any clothes, they go in the box. You then take that box and store it away for a year or two. After a year or two, revisit those boxes and see if you want to save them for sentimental reasons or donate them.

Another important tip, when you do laundry for baby, don’t bother folding the clothes, baby clothes are SO tiny and fitted that when they wear them, you can’t see any wrinkles, and moreover, you don’t care if they are wrinkled. This will save you hours on folding time. I used to do laundry and take the clean clothes from the laundry basket and open all the drawers, then I’d play a game of basket ball dunks from the laundry basket to the appropriate drawer, see, laundry can be fun.

OK, I’m done with my useless advice, good luck and God speed. When are you due?

Re: Baby Organization Ideas

anything with drawers or shelf will work best for baby stuff.

Re: Baby Organization Ideas

I like the idea of the clear bins we can just stack on top of each other in our closet a lot. I think I might go for that versus buying all out furniture. And you’re right about baby clothes being too tiny to do much with aside from dumping into drawers..lol.

I am due January 15th Inshallah…cannot wait to meet my little bean!!!
