My son is now 8.5 months old and teething. For the last few weeks, he’s saying no to everything and anything and has lost weight instead of gaining any…he just turns his head away whenever I try to feed him..he’s considerably cut down on his milk intake as well…I started solids at 4 months and he loved everything I fed him up until now…He looks so tiny in just a matter of few weeks…
I am worried sick and dont know what to do…help!!!

What does the doctor say?
Do you nurse or bottle feed?
Did you give him any painkillers to help with the pain and swelling?

consult his pediatritian asap. other than that, feed him what he likes. maybe its a change in his tastebuds or it hurts his mouth due to teeth growing. but consult a ped.

I have heard that you should never try to force the child to eat, because they can end up having severe food aversions for the rest of their life. Do you think this phase might pass after teething? Consult a Dr, in the meantime, offer the baby what he likes to eat / drink, but don't force. Hope he gets better soon.

its quite common for 8 month olds to go through phases of not wanting to eat.. my son was 8.5 months when he stopped eating anything and everything... he was teething... once the teeth popped out, he was back to normal.. so dont worry.. just keep offering him food... he will drop weight, but its normal... he will regain once his teeth have popped out.. it it continues to a longer period, consult his paed

yup i agree. dont worry at all.
my daughter has done this twice. once around the 8months. she stopped milk for 3 weeks straight. i fed her milk with a syringe. she lived off food tins. its all due to teething.
but one thing was i didnt give up. every day i made and disposed bottles of milk, kept tryin and eventually when her teethin calmed down she strated drinking and eating properly again.
kids lose and gain weight very quick. maybe speak to ur dr and ask them if they can give u some high calorie shakes for the baby. i know someone who was given these

I havent seen my GP yet. He has popped out 2 bottom teeth and I dont see any other ones brewing. I hope its just a phase.
I gave him cheese today and he loved it, but just by itself. I paired it with some rice…and it was a big no again…I will keep trying different things and see what works…
I was looking online and this could be another reason…
I am going to try more finger foods now and see what happens..

Another thing to ask your doc about is the possibility of silent reflux. Sometimes, a little one has reflux but it isnt severe enough to cause the textbook symptoms (crying, back arching andvomiting). But its enough to make eating a somewhat painful experience. And teething aggravates reflux - a fact that not all pediatricians are aware of!
My first son had severe issues with this. Its just something to look into...my other two sons had feeding issues also when they were teething...I mean heck who wants to eat when your mouth hurts right? But after what happened with number 1 son, I had them checked out anyway for reflux. Better safe than sorry yeah?
