Baby Names

Since there are quite many guppie ladies and gentlemen pregnant this year, including myself. So I thought why not have all of you contribute and make a list of baby names for girls and boys. I am having a very hard time picking baby names and I am sure it will be of great help to all the pregnant guppies and guppans!

P.S. Oh yeah, and it must be modern and new names. No old fashioned names please!

Congratulations on the coming addition.

Re: name, u mean to tell us that the father, grand-parents, uncles and aunties and other assorted relatives have given you a free-hand? :D Thats weird. Get a name book, and select something with a good meaning.

Re: Baby Names

well it’s actually me not Sajal who is pregnant. I accidently submitted the thread while she was logged on. I didn’t realize it until after I had posted it. But Sajal is going to be a khala for the first time!

Re: Baby Names

Congrats Neera,

How far along are you now? Do you know if it's a boy or girl? I'm 6.5month, having a girl and just looking into names right now. There are alot of beautiful names with nice meanings but I find that most of them are already taken by friends/family we know. I met a father with his 3yo son at the park last summer who asked if i was Persian..because he was. Anyways our conversation turned to naming our kids with Muslim names. He said that in the midst of 911 and the discrimination that followed he didn't want to name his kids with recognizably Muslim names. He wanted Western sounding names so nobody would know if they were Muslim. I could understand where he's coming from, but have to disagree. It seems like a cowards way out and ..well he's selling out his own culture and religion.
I realized the importance of names through this experience. Our daughter is Safia, and the second daughter will have an equally Muslim name that i'm still searching for.

Re: Baby Names

^^ Saima, I do agree with you and I am looking for muslim baby names as well. I don't care if the Americans find them hard to pronounce or if they easily associate them with muslim/islamic names. I would never choose american names for my children.

And yes, I did find out the gender of the baby. But it will be a surprise for everyone else. But at least it makes it easier now to pick either a boy or girl's name instead of looking for both names. Well, actually I did find one name that I really like I just want to have everyone in my family give me an input on that before I final that name.

Oh yes, I am almost five months now so about 7-8 weeks behind you. And believe me it seems like a looooooonnnnggg time! I still have quite many months to go.

Re: Baby Names

I'm a firm believer in the theory that when the baby arrives you'll know what to call them then and there. Sometimes you can have a name all picked out awaiting the arrival of the baby and when it arrives the name doesn't 'fit'.

Re: Baby Names

I like to stick to old fashion names, they are just sooo beautiful.

Re: Baby Names

nice ones..how do you pronounce them? do you have the arabic/urdu letters…
