baby names in islam

Why cant a new born baby have a christian name like “jeneifer, sam etc. etc..” ???
Also, a person reverting to islam…does he have to change his name from john on passport etc…or can they keep their name as “john” and be muslim also??

Re: baby names in islam

well furqan

muslims r supposed to have muslim names just to keep the difference from other religions

u know like we have to have our different lifestyle and dress code to differentiate from non-muslims

just like that we r supposed to have muslim name to tell muslims apart from non-muslims

and who convert they have to change their name if they have christian names like john

but if they have muslim names like u know paki christians they have muslim name like yousuf yuhanna

so yuosuf is a muslim name so u can keep it

but if u have christian or anyother name u have to change it

Re: baby names in islam

Why furqan don't you like the lovely names in Islam...?

Re: baby names in islam

Just because of that? What about a person who have non-muslim name and yet he/she can still by his/her acts keep the difference between other religions. Or what about ppl who have muslim names and yet do all or almost everything that doesn't fall under our religion Islam, hence hard to differenciate?

And what defines a Christian name?? And where does it say you have to change it?? Reference? If a person have a non muslim name and follow Islam almost fully, does he/she still have to change it even though it doesnt have any impact's on person's life?

Re: baby names in islam

names have a religion :hmmm:

Re: baby names in islam

There is no rule to change your name if you revert/convert to Islam. It is recommended that your name not be conflicting or suggestive of a totally non-Islamic belief. For example if you have a name that is the name of another god then it is recommended to change it. There is no rule as such or mandatory requirement.

Re: baby names in islam

well if u r name sake muslim then i dont have anything to do with it or do i????

well if u wanaaprctise ur religion then u have to follow it completely

and yes differenciation between muslims and non-muslims is neccesary

in dress code, in life style and all the other things

prophet asked ppl to trim their moustaches just because non-muslims also had beards but they didnt trim their moustaches

so he asked them to to that so ppl will recognize u from ur looks that ur a muslim

he used to ask ppl to die their hair wit henna cuz non-muslims did not and had grey hair

so he asked ppl to dye their hair with henna

he forbade to use black colour cuz christians used black color ti die hair

so ha forbade and told different color the color of henna
so muslims will get recognized

so wat u think if a person is muslim and her name is jennifer

wat will u think bout her if she doesnt tell u that shes a muslim ??

probably u will think that shes a christian!!!

so it makes difference right

and if sum1 practices islam but has a christian name so wont u ask y she has a christian name????

and many sahabas changed their non-muslim names with muslim names

one of them is salman farsi RA

and it is the first right of a muslim child that he/she is given a muslim name!!!

Re: baby names in islam

who cares. Really , do you think Allah cares?? no, just humans who can't see anything else but keeping muslims and non muslims easily identifiable whether by name or clothing.

Remember keep it humanistic and don't name a girl wisal as it sounds like weasal. get it.

Omar

Lulu

Jenna both arabic meaning muslim names yet also used by the west.

And like in all languages there are pretty dorky and nerdy sounding names.

Re: baby names in islam

who cares if muslim named Jennifer , does that make her less of a person, human?

Be more worried about the type of person you befriend then their religion.

Personally i like germanic-nordic names. If i ever had a son his name i would like to be Wolfgang Omar, who know about the last name.

iTS not the name Its the person mostly that counts.

And what about it if girl does not tell you she is muslim? even she is christian. get to know the person .

Re: baby names in islam

^ why dont u name him charles Martel , that wu be better for u

yes...yes...Otherwise, how will Allah recognise you? He is old you know....

Re: baby names in islam

I agree with you...exactly what i was thinking.

Re: baby names in islam

You can keep any name as long as the meaning of the name is good.

I personally like Arabic names and some hebrew names of Prophets for boys.

Re: baby names in islam

if allah doesnt care wat u wear or do then y wud he send a prophet among u who wud teach u the dress code and lifestyle

and who emphesized that muslims shud be different than non-muslims??

just answer my question any1???

Re: baby names in islam

AKA the Hammer? i am assuming you are referring to the guy who won the battle of Tours? I am not crazy about the name charles but Martel has a nice sound. but , i still am more crazy for the germanic -nordic names. But thanks Das Reich, hey you have german moniker also. I see you appreciate what i mean , good on ya.

Re: baby names in islam

So what if her name is Jennifer?
If i know her and find out she's Muslim, i would naturally assume she was a convert, since Jennifer isn't really an Arabic/Asian name. But that's all. I wouldn't think she wa sa bad Muslim for not changing her name. and if i mistakenly thought she was Christian... how is that end of the world? is she going to hell or something?

Silly me, i thought actions and character were what made someone a Muslim. Not just a name. :@:
