Re: baby name zarish
In my eyes, ‘Islamic’ names are the names belonging to prominent Islamic personalities, like Muhammad, Ali, Umar, Fatima, Zainab etc etc. Otherwise all names derive from language.
In my view, I think its important to give your child a name he/she can relate to, a name that reflects its heritage and belonging. For example, I know quite a few ‘goras’ with non anglicised names, whever you ask about the origins of their name, they say with a flicker in their eyes 'oh its an Irish name, my mother was Irish, its an Italian name my father was an Italian, its a Russian name, as my ancestors were Russian Jews etc. So I think its important to give child a name with a meaning and purpose, me being a Muslim Pakistani Punjabi, I’m not gonna give my child a Polish name just because it sounds so ‘new’. I don’t want my child to shrug his shoulders and say I don’t know when asked about having such an ‘unusual’ name. I rather give him a Balochi name as its still part of our Pakistani heritage…something we and our child could so relate to.
