I learned a very interesting fact today. Due to the nature of cell division, it was traditionally believed that there is an exact 50/50 chance of having a boy or a girl. However, this can be changed by only having intercourse at specific times, that is, right after the end of the period or right at the time of ovulation.
This would change the chances to about 55/45.
Men have both X and Y sex chromosomes, while women have both X and X. The child will get one from the father and one from the mother. The mother can obviously only give an X because thats all she has. Now it depends on the father, if the child inherits the fathers X chromosome, it will have two Xs and be a girl. If the child gets a Y from the father, it will have X and Y and be a boy.
The reason this timed intercourse technique works is because of the difference between the X chromosomed sperms (girls) and Y chromosomed sperms (boys). The X sperms swim slower but last longer, while the Y sperms swim faster but die faster too.
Having intercourse right after the end of the period lets most of the Y sperms die out before the egg is released (ovulation). On the other hand, if intercourse happens at the same time as ovulation or within the next 24 hours, it is more likely that the faster Y sperm will reach the egg first.
This is pretty interesting because I always thought that tis was out of our hands but it seems there are ways around it. Personally, however, I find this information useful purely for its scientific intrigue and not for any practical interests. However, Im sure many desis will find this information very practical and useful, so I suggest that if they must, theyd rather use this than taking some chemicals or doing some other crap, which could be dangerous.
One more thing for the guys to show off...Our Ys are faster than your Xs :)
Anyway I had read about this before and a friend of mine claims she got her son through the above method. Regarding using some chemicals to get a particular gender, I am not sure there is any method like that.
No method is 100% so if you are trying especially to have a particular gender baby and dont get it, you can be pretty disappointed.
thats crazy cos i ended up having a lengthy discussion with a couple of friends of mine on this exact same theory/topic just yesterday. i had no idea there was a scientific way of accomplishing this, but one of them swears this is how she had her boy and girl.
Another thing Id like to add here is the sexy-son hypothesis. The most fertile period of a woman is the day of ovulation, and the further away from it the less fertile the period. The sexy-son hypothesis states that women naturally prefer more masculine men during the most fertile periods of their cycle, ie, at ovulation. Also, it states, they prefer more care-giving men at less fertile periods of their cycle.
This way they can secure both the best genes, and the best care for their offspring. Of course, this is only an evolutionary fact, women don't change partners practically nowadays. However, this would mean that men are predisposed towards masculinity, being that women prefer masculine men at ovulation, which is when there are greater chances of having boy. And women are predisposed towards "care-giving", because the women would prefer care-giver fathers at the less-fertile times of her period, ie, before ovulation, a time which would increase the chances of girls being born.
As such, this could scientifically explain why men are masculine and women feminine and not the other way around. Men as such, would scientifically be the stronger sex (greater reproductive ability, greater ability to survive etc), while women would be the kinder sex (for lack of a better term).
Its funny, because just yesterday, I remember reading an article in the newspaper in which the author was blasting surah 4 of the Quran saying that the Quran's statement that men are the stronger sex is absurd. I dont think thats the case, men are not the better sex, they are just the stronger sex. It's amazing how the Quran never fails to be scientifically rational, considering how it was revealed more than 1400 years ago.
