How do you go about choosing a formula to supplement breast feeding for a newborn?
I know it will be either enfamil or similac but there are so many kinds of these two..how do you pick one? Andhow do you know if it suits your child or not? I only want it to be for emergency n when milk supply is low!
And no we didn’t get any samples from the hospital since they are pro breast feeding and don’t even talk about formula feeding!
You will need the regular ones.Enfamil makes one for babies 0-3 months.Similac makes one for babies 0-12 months.
Whatever else you see on shelves is meant to be for babies with other needs, like those who have regurgitation, the formula for them contains some added rice.
How well it suits your baby, you will know I think. If it causes tummy issues you might get a cranky baby etc.I do not know a lot as my daughter was fine with both Similac (she took that for the first 6 months and then there was a recall)and Enfamil (for another six months).
I only used these two so can only say about them.
Hospitals usually do not give out formula samples, the formula companies do.I got a few boxes from both Similac and Enfamil.Sign up on their website, they also send nice coupons for the first year.
For example if you want to try Enfamil this will be the one
Enfamil's starter formula is from 0-12, although Enfapro is from 6-12 and its for babies who have started solids. I haven't switched him over yet and I don't think I will since he's been on Enfamil A+ since day one and likes it. You can't go wrong with really any of the basic ones- Enfamil, Similac, Nestle Good Start, etc. Our paed recommeded it so we went with it but we only got sample from GoodStart and Similac. Enfamil didn't send us any hmph.
Also, unless your paed has said he needs something special like lactose free or thickened, you can just start with the basic one.
it actually depends on the baby like nothing suited my baby only nan n mashahallah she is still taking it else wth every formula she was either having stomach upset or constipation v have 2 switch many times i recomend u whicever u go try the normal one not like lactose free or HA n other different abbreviations bc all those formulas r wth special need if ur baby is doing fine try the simple formula(hope so u r getting wht i mean) i have heard good reviews of similac :)
We used Similac's Advanced Immune Support one because that's what was given at the hospital. She did fine and then we continued with it until there was some recall and we switched with the Enfamil Advanced ones (they have special formulas for each stage, newborn, infant, and toddler). She drank the Infant one until she switched to regular milk at 1 year.
We got those ready to use enfamil newborn bottles just in case..I can't imagine prepping formula while he is screaming in the middle of nite so we will try these bottles n if it works then buy the container n prepare things in advance.
