Baby food recipes

Cant believe time flies so fast. There I was a few months ago asking dumb questions on delivery and here I am now five months on, getting baby weaned :hinna:

Need some ideas of home made baby food recipes please:@:

Another question : I tried steaming and puree’ing different fruits and veggies .. some of them change taste and stink after steaming ! like ,I steamed peach and puree’d it and yukh ! Simba yelled at the highest pitch ever !

so the question is, why do we steam everything before feeding the baby? isnt the concept to soften the hard foods? then why do we need to steam even soft foods like peach or pear ?

am I doing something wrong?

Re: Baby food recipes

There are great tips here, CB http://www.paklinks.com/gs/household-affairs-and-cuisine-corner/435321-home-made-baby-food.html

I think khawateen posted that she just pureed fruits, instead of steaming, as the nurses advised.

thanks so much Sahar :)))

Baby food recipes

Same here…soft fruits I never steamed, only puréed and thinned out with breast milk as needed

Re: Baby food recipes

my baby never liked pureed fruits. He did enjoy vegetable mash lightly seasoned.

now at 10 months, he enjoys finger food.

Re: Baby food recipes

Just purée or blend the fruits, I think by steaming or boling you may even lose its nutritional values.
AFter 6 months you can cut then up in slices & give em raw.

Re: Baby food recipes

For fruit smoothies are great, i made banana and nectarine puree and she loved it… Me too lol
Veggies i steam as boiling looses the vital nutrients. -any veg you find changes taste after steaming/boiling you can mix with another to improve the taste.
My dd didn’t like potato on its own so i mixed with carrots or cauliflower , parsnips and apples are a good combo too, carrots paranips and brocolli. I steamed butternut squash today, will see how it goes with LO tomorrow.

Re: Baby food recipes

If your little one isn’t into purees have you considered Baby-led weaning?

On the otherside ideas for baby meals…lentils (well cooked) mashed with baby rice is a nice intro to desi cuisine. Beef mince with potatoes if often recommended for iron purposes as at 6 months a baby can do with a boost of it. I used to cook it, mash it and freeze it in little cubes (actually large cube trays-got them from Boots).

Vegetable purees are often the ones kids are not interested in; so may take a while to get little one to take to them but then if they don’t like the fruity kind…

For inspiration I would suggest a look at Ellas Kitchen range.

Re: Baby food recipes

I was going to ask why you don’t consider baby led weaning too? I do it and it’s brilliant - no steaming or pureeing etc. He eats what we eat and I don’t have to carry jars of stinky baby food around. It is a messy business though especially in the beginning (I’m repainting my kitchen this weekend after a particularly projectile spaghetti bolagnaise flinging episode  )

I’ve baby led weaned too and its been great. At 13 months my son eats what we eat with slightly less chilli. Current favourite is kadi. No hassle of pureeing etc.
