Yeah…constipation can easily be avoided by what one eats. Babies don’t need to poop multiple times a day or every day for that matter…as long as their poop isn’t hard and pebbly, they can go a couple of days and be fine. Constipation isn’t really there. My doctor said that you should think of it as the baby pulling as much of the nutrients and goodies from their food as possible…leaving only proper waste to poop lol. Babies should avoid fruit juices as much as possible cos they’re empty calories…which is why doctors only suggest prune juice when there is severe constipation. Until one year of age babies should be drinking breastmilk/formula and pureed solids. If you do want to introduce a liquid, 4oz of water (in one day) is more than enough.
Chicken Biryani, for lunch I usually give my son yogurt, some rice puffs and cheese/fruit. He loves strawberry/banana flavored yogurts and it’s good for babies digestive systems. If you have leftovers from dinner (rice, chicken) you can mix it with plain yogurt and give it to baby. Honestly, any leftovers would do. I think it helps a lot to give your children whatever you eat bcos they are less likely to be picky eaters that way…new flavors and textures encourages them to be adventurous eaters. And if you’re wondering yogurt is safe for babies, before one year bcos it has a different composition than that of whole cow’s milk (which is only to be given after babies one year mark).
Oh and if you’re starting yakhni and chicken soon…take a handful of rice, add chicken yakhni, carrots and peas to it. Cook on low flame and continue adding yakhni as it dries up so the rice and veggies are very mushy and soft…puree it so everything is relatively smooth and pour into ice cube tray. Once it freezes you can put it in a Ziploc bag and take out 2/3 cubes whenever you plan to feed or as much as you see fit for your baby. It freezes awesomely and warms up/defrosts great too! I usually made a batch for about 5-7 days and my son loved it. You can omit the peas and carrots if you wish…but if he has already had peas and carrots with no allergic reaction then adding them is a great idea.
every baby is different; some poop 5 times a day, others once a week. its all normal.
my baby needs to go once everyday ; if he misses a day, he looks visibly upset and has hard dry poop that hurts , which is why i give him prune juice. obviously i don't give it everyday, just when he misses a day or two. his diet is fine, his milk intake has reduced a little bit which is why he's constipated but i can't force feed him milk if he doesnt wan't it.
a teaspoon or two of prune juice every other day won't hurt him.
I don’t think prune juice hurts anyone. Some people like to have prunes as part of their diet, what’s wrong with that. It really does help with constipation. My son poops everyday but when trying new food, even changing milk from formula to cow milk was really tough. I had to give him prune juice. I don’t see anything wrong with that. His doctor never said anything against prune juice.
Spiral. prunes are very fibrous indeed. However, not many pediatricians recommend prune juice given to babies on an everyday basis, actually any juice on an everyday basis. As mentioned earlier, juices are discouraged as they have high sugar content and not much in nutritious value for babies. That is all some of us are trying to get across.
This is something that has helped me with my son, so I am just putting it out (not suggesting anyone to replace prune juice). Whenever I feel my son is getting severely constipated, I try to include spinach in his diet.
oats are also very good for constipated kids, i used to give cereral in breakfast then vegie or fruit purre in lunch n oats in dinner, it ususally keeps the baby full. i introduced chicken after 9 months, i never cooked separetly for my baby whatever we eat but i keep spices very low and usually used to wash the piece and give in her hand especially leg piece but i always made fresh purres but i made purress only for a month i guess uss k bad tu hath se yeah fork se thora sa soft kr k de dya. uff i am trying hard to remember wht i else i used to give her seems like ages, yes i used to make tht lentil soup and baked beans for her and she simply loved brocilli soup.
DA, tell us more about how you made lentil soup, which daal? which time and at what age. Also, did you get ready made oat cereal or cooked yourelf? the recipe?
I know it makes sense that diet is the controlling factor for constipation, but it does not always resolve things.
Multiple children in my family have had this issue, my daughter included. And it is not resolved by diet. They just seem to have to grow out of it. My daughter eats a ton of fruits, berries, oranges, apples, bananas, etc. She also loves dried fruits like prunes, apricots, raisins, cranberries, etc. She drinks juices and water regularly. NOTHING solved her constipation. It is really painful to see your child suffer that way. It has only gotten better as she’s gotten older. I do think that when she is more active, things are a bit easier for her too.
Well doctor’s have a tendency to directly address the symptom rather than to try and an establish cause. I don’t think there was any harm in the suggestion that you should investigate a bit deeper.
I am going through the same phase she is 2.5 she eats fruits, juices, oats but still, I cut her banana and rice but its still there , doctor asked me to mix little bit of water in her milk but still its there don’t know how long it will take none of us in family has this problem, my poor bacha
