I am looking at buying a baby bouncer / rocker .. any advise regards this product?
I guess its for the daytime use , I am thinking of buying a lightweight one that I may carry around the house ( upstairs and downstairs ) when needed .. any suggestions of specific bouncers in the market?
We got this as a gift from an auntie and initially I thought we will never use it but once cuppycake started holding milk bottle in his hands, we used to put him in there (propped up) and he would finish his bottle.. now whenever we put him in there, he knows it;s milk time
But yeah this needs to be supervised because it doesnt have the shoulder harness, he can bend himself forward facing down.. we never leave him unattended.. I may have never bought it but since it was a gift, we used it.
swings, bouncers, rockers.. it all depends on the baby.. either they love it or hate it! my baby loved swing and we used it for 7-8 months, best gift ever!
It all depends on the baby..what he/she likes.
I got a Fisher price swing/bouncer combo thing just because it had both options in it and was light weight and did not take up too much space. My daughter hated the bouncer ,enjoyed the swing part and I used to put her in it quite often.Although I felt that it was not too comfy for the baby’s back (the particular one I had,not all of them).I will probably never use it again for any future kids.
Gtg has a point,if these are battery operated, they eat batteries like anything..!!
There are a few swing models which run on electricity. They cost more but I guess you can save on the loads of batteries you’d be buying..!
I had this (in a different pattern)…
we got it as a gift too…and i’m using it since he was a month old…he used to take his afternoon nap in it…and was very convenient when guests come or if we are visiting our neighbours i used to take it with me and he enjoys lying and playing with hanging toys…
the only problem(what gtg said) is that he has started to sit and move alot at 8months so i cant leave him unattended…
plus its his highchair nowadays…i feed him food in this bouncer…
we got a rocker/carrier as a gift too but he didnt like it…so it depends on your baby what he prefers you have to stick to it…
babies can be in bouncers and swings from birth. you can’t leave them in there for hours, no, but you wouldn’t do that with an older baby either.
this is the one we bought. its one of the few ones on the market that actually bounce; most of them just vibrate. he used it a lot since he was little and enjoyed being in it. he’d even sleep in it. it has three bounce settings, volume control, a selection of music and an option for white noise (which is what we used the most when he’d sleep in it), and a proper shoulder harness to prevent them sliding out/getting out on their own. plus the toy bar is detachable. we didn’t use it until the kid was old enough to figure out what they were lol. we also had the matching portable swing with the same number of features as the bouncer. it doesn’t take up much floor space and it folds up compactly for storage, plus we’d take it from ours to my parents and even while we travelled so he could use it anywhere. this was one of our best purchases, i gotta say. most baby swings are ginormous and we just didn’t have room for that. both of these are now with a friend’s baby and both are working on the same set of batteries we put in originally despite the kid having used it a LOT right from birth! also, the music that both bouncer and swing play, is awesome. nothing barfy, tinny or the get-on-your-nerves type.
Just to clarify, I am not going for those battery operated bouncers .. I am just looking for something which will give slight bouncy feeling to the baby when he moves .. Like I saw one at mothercare the other day and thought it was quite springy and I liked it .. you reckon babies enjoy that kind of a thing?
^ for that, they'd definitely have to be a little bit older because when they're brand new, they just kind of lie there, like cute potato sacks.
but also, it might be a bit disconcerting to have the surface beneath you move with every movement of yours? i dunno.
^ I would imagine babies enjoy that movement, no? why else do they say that babies get into a habit of being held all the time if they get picked up too much … I think there must be a connection between these little people and movement
your threads are such an inspiring line of action for all us new to be moms I was actually thinking over the rocker and now I will be helped muftay mai
i think being picked up probably has more to do with the person picking them up and that feeling of being cuddled and held, rather than the movement.
i guess i don’t see the point of a bouncer that remains static unless the baby moves- it sounds like a lot of work for a wee baby to do to get some enjoyment. then again, they do get to the vigorous leg-kicking stage and then they might actually love it. i guess maybe wait for that stage and then try one out with your kid? if it doesn’t work out, you can return it.

edit: actually, scratch that previous comment. i just remembered how much my kid loved the jolly jumper and the principle is the same- they more they kick, the higher it bounces. he would spend up to an hour bouncing away in it happily.
