I agree that most women have a certain degree of cattiness in them. Even if it's unspoken there can be some jealousy or backbiting. But I don't think that's the rule with all female relationships. I know a couple women who are like angels.
Perhaps there may be a biological reason that we as women must size up the competition. We buy Vogue and Cosmo to look at pictures of other women, copy their make-up, clothes and hair.

Just the same way a man and a woman can have a purely platonic relationship.
