I would give Babel 8/10.
I liked it because it compels one to think on many levels; from the systemic down to the personal. Loved the way, the writer/director brought the story to its ultimate end, thereby giving meaning to the interconnectedness of those multifarious events that took place across the globe.
This is an excellent movie and very well directed as well. Alejandro González Iñárritu at his finest. No wonder he was nominate for Best Direction in 79th Oscars.
Without giving away too much of the plot just want to mention that like Minnno said, there are 3 concurrent stories going on in the movie, one ind Morocco, one in Japan and one in San Diego and the audience in the beiginning doesnt know that they are somehow inteconnected. The movies falls in the cartegory of political morality drama, like Syriana and Crash.
I thought Crash was more enjoyable. Babel dragged in some places, and Pitt overacted. The drama about the Morroccan family and the Mexican maid was fleshed out very well. But the Japanese part was boring and creepy. The message of this film is important - a small gesture on your part can ruin lives across the globe, so think before you act.
^my mom also said the samething but I feel that it was perhaps that girls character and her ways that walida couldn't accept or come to terms with. Personally, I think they just showed how people are engrossed with their lives, oblivious of what goes on in the world and suddenly...boom...you are not an ordinary man/woman living his/her life, coping with day to day problems but a potential terrorist implicated in a high profile case that concerns two American citizens.
I've seen it in some months ago. I liked all the story lines. Every part, every scene of this movie was excellent.
Something happens with an American couple while they are in Morocco, someone from Japan had a connection with someone in Morocco once and because of that connection something happens to that American couple now. Meanwhile during their stay in Morocco, their children are with a Mexican who takes care of them in their own home. But because of the thing that happened to the parents while in Morocco, they can't return home when they want to and because of that the Mexican can't go to her family without leaving their children behind. So she takes them with her and gets in trouble. In one way or another, all story lines are somehow connected to each other.
It's a great movie, very interestingly filmed, the nude scenes were nicely done. Excellent story telling.
Mwua.. I expected more of this movie.. I read some reviews and then watched it later on dvd.. But it was just.. mwua.. I agree with the otherz.. Crash was so much better than Babel..
