How much weight are you willing to carry? And are you sold on Intel's Centrino or P-4 or do other brands also work for you? Plus any requirements for processor speed?
I still don't understand the reason for posting threads like this. I mean are you asking for brands or finding you deals? BabaG, you already know what kinda specs you are looking for and i'm sure you know what you can afford, then all you have to do is just google around. Here's one site where you will pick up a cheap (maybe refurb) notebook: www.ecost.com
If you are looking for brands then Sony and IBM is what I'd recommend.
Tofi bhai jaan the purpose is to get recommendations from those in the know.. Obviously i can google too and do comparison shopping.. but you can help by providing me a comparison site that lets me 'drill down' or search based on installed video RAM... i don't know of one which lets you do that..
also if anyone does know a notebook which is cheap but meets this critiera .. it could be a no name.. unbranded thing which I would have no way of knowing.. they could help by recommending it..

thanks for those SalmanNY.. well wish i had the luxury of inspecting and picking it up in person ... but i don't.. so i'd have to rely on the online vendors..
I did check out e-bay.. and the story is the same.. I first need to zero in on to models that meet my requirements and none of the websites i know let you search based on installed video RAM.
Baba G. Let me give you this little advice. Dont ever buy a laptop from a local computer store. Only buy branded laptops. If you want to buy a cheaply priced laptop then make sure its not unbranded. I would advice you to buy any reliable brand but buy a brand atleast.
Baba G has a few games from his bachpan which he wants to play on the notebook and sadly all of them require a minimum of 32MB of video RAM.. that too dedicated ... so it can't be shared memory.
This particular aspect has rendered web searches kinda difficult.. hence the query..
I think you can easily find a laptop equipped with a 32mb video card. You'll know if its shared memory if it says "Intel extreme graphics" or something like this. and even if it is shared, you dont always have to feed ur video card 32mb of memory. In laptops its easy to just turn it on or off. Just turn it on whenver your playing games and take all the memory back from it when your not.
and besides, i dont think the original space invaders requires 32 mb graphics card anywayz......
