baba farid

i would like to know about this sufi saint where was he born what was his idelogy and where is he buried

Do a google on Baba Farid or Sheikh/Shaikh Farid Shakarganj..I am sure you will find plenty of info.

He was born in village Khotwal(now named something else near Pak Pattan?) in Multan district in 1173(?) and died in 1266(?) in Pak Pattan. He belonged to Chistia firqa of Sufis and wrote Punjabi saloks(couplets) in Multani accent.

There is a city in East Punjab named after him, Faridkot. Story goes that he was drafted as a laborer to build the fort in Faridkot. When he worked there the bucket he used to carry materials used to float over his head without any visible support. King was told about it and he let him go home. There is a darghah and Gurdwara called Chilla Farid in Faridkot based on this incident.

baba farid seems so revered by the sikhs?
is his mazar in faridkot?

Kabir, Baba Farid is revered by Sikhs for two reasons; one his writings are present in our religious book, and second he is the first documented Punjabi poet. When you talk about the history of Punjabi literature or language it starts from Baba Farid.

He was not burried in Faridkot. He only stayed there for a while and did a chilla...so there is a place where a gurdwara and a Chilla Farid mazaar type place stand now and people go and pray.
