Baat Pakki - How did yours go?

Hi I’m new to this forum and am recently engaged/baat pakki-ed. lol.

I live in the US and the guy is from abroad, our wedding will be in 4 months so we will not be having any formal engagement/mangni.
We are planning the wedding already and I’m going to Pakistan in the next few weeks to do all my wedding shopping.

But I have a few questions - Am I considered as engaged? Living in a western culture where even Pakistanis are westernized.. relationship statuses basically are single/dating/engaged/married. So when people ask, how do I respond? Also, did you ever receive anything from your in laws on a baat pakki? I know on mangni’s girls will often get rings.. but when you’re not having an engagement, should my in laws have given me something?
And for the record they live very affluently and have no financial issues at all.

Thanks for the help! And I look forward to reading your responses

Yes, you're considered engaged. There is no rule that they have to give you a ring. I didn't get a ring until my wedding day, but my inlaws gave me another piece of jewelry on the baat pakki.

yes you are definitely considered engaged. i had my baat pakki for a little more than a year before i got married and no i didnt get a ring till my wedding day cause we didnt have a formal engagement. our families knew eachother well for years and we had been neighbors till my parents moved to a different province so and my baat pakki was mostly over the phone as my in laws and parents live in opposite end of canada and my mil thought it looked weird mailing me the ring or something which makes sense but at the wedding i got both the ring and the wedding band :)
