B.com / ACCA

One of my cousin in Pakistan asked me regarding B.com or ACCA whic is a better choice, I advised her that you should lay out your plans if you are keen on accounting then you should go for BBA (not B.Com) and then go ahead with your aspirations of ACCA or better yet CA.

Some advise from the guppies will be valuable, due to financial reason she is taking intermediate currently and pursue on with higher education.

What would you suggest? is B.Com still a good choice and or ACCA is worth it directly after intermediate?

Thanks and Allah hafiz

Re: B.com / ACCA

ACCA is by all means the best. If he can qualify the ACCA within three years after his Intermediate exams, it is better for him to go for ACCA. ACCA also offer a UK bachelor degree from Oxford Brookes University.

Re: B.com / ACCA

She can start her CA even after the intermediate. No need to do BBA.

Re: B.com / ACCA

And another thing, once you are registered with the ACCA and starts studying, you can also take admission in B Com as a private candidate and can easily pass the papers without studying virtually anything extra, as ACCA studies are far more tougher than the B Com studies.

Re: B.com / ACCA

Well, according to my view, ACCA is better than B.Com. And CA is even more better than ACCA because its a Pakistani qualification and enjoys a kind of advantage over ACCA. But on the other hand ACCA has a world wide recognition. So if someone wants to be in Pakistan, he/she should prefer CA (this is soley my view).

Re: B.com / ACCA

And that's the general view in Pakistan - CA is the premium qualification of accountancy in Pakistan.

Re: B.com / ACCA

By the way, ICAP provides finanicial assistance on need cum merit basis to its students which is to be repaid after the completion of the qualification, in instalments.

Re: B.com / ACCA

Exactly!!! I 100% agree to your comment. :)

Re: B.com / ACCA

^^ so in your opinion its better to go for ACCA, rather than going for BBA?

Re: B.com / ACCA

Yes if she can not join CA, doing ACCA is the best option. With that she can achieve B Com degree easily.

Re: B.com / ACCA

Perhaps the most important question for your cousin to answer is where does she see herself after five, ten or fifteen years. If she’s sure that she wants to be a Chartered Accountant, the best options could be CA or ACCA. However, if I’m not mistaken, she can’t go for ACCA after intermediate, unless she’s ready to take CAT route, or is old enough to go through Mature Student Entry Route (MSER).

If she’s unsure about whether she wants to be an accountant or not, she might consider some good undergraduate programs relating to commerce, finance or management etc. Going for a bachelor’s degree, at this stage, could be her best as well as worst option depending on a number of factors. As you’ve mentioned that she’s not strong enough financially, the institutes like LUMS could be off the list, unless she’s eligible for some scholarship or loan. But there can still be some good options that warrant consideration.

Some of the sites you might like to explore (especially if she’s in Lahore):
