Re: Aziz to World Bank - Chattha as PM?
Humayun Akhter is a major player for the top post (PM) and past speculation has always mentioned his name aspiring for this position. Infact, Shaukat Aziz was the compromise candidate cause the Generals wanted Akhter as PM while the Gujrati brothers opposed and prevailed.
Mr Aziz has certainly redeemed himself as the Finance Minister and probably still is performing the same duties with change of positions.
As long as we have the Faujis+Chaudhries in alliance, its difficult to expect any assertive PM in the forseeable future. Chaudhries have always played alongwith the establishment and are well versed with rules of the game. They also realized how important it is to stay in power to perpetuate their existing support. Politics in Pakistan centers around power and the Chaudhries know that thus their reluctance to share Punjab.
Faujis are quite comfortable with this arrangement cause it serves their interest and to be fair Chaudhries have delivered whenever required ie LFO, political stability, support to the Faujis (Mush) and an effective resistence to the Sharifs.
Therefore, its my guess not much changes with a any shuffling of the PM position which has been effectively reduced to a ceremonial post with power resting with the Fauji President.
