I like using besan (2 tablespoons), turmeric powder (half a tablespoon) and lemon juice (to make a paste). This gives me a bright complexion and I swear by it to fade marks! :)
Gina y u r so much into home made stuff? do they actually work for u ?
By God i used every recipe i learnt from Mags (even this masur daal one) in my teens n twenties but they never helped me then. now my skin has changed n more receptive so they do help a lil but i still doubt if using these alone can ever help u reach ur skin goals.
I've tried several home-remedies and they worked really well for me! However there are a few products i'd be lost without. I don't buy a mask or even cleanser anymore. It's just a scrub or moisturizer that I use (store-bought).
Home-remedies worked better on a few of my scars than microderm did.. :)
U r lucky that they work so well for u. even though i love using them still hav to depend on commercial products. had i not used retin A n HQ long time back i would hav a scary face now.
I attended a seminar last weekend on ayurveda and beauty, it's very similar to homemade 'desi' nuskhay and had such wonderful reviews.
The most frequently used were saffron oil, chandan (sandalwood) turmeric, fenugreek seeds, cinnamon powder and lots of different herbs and roots.
Any experience with ayurvedic beauty treatments or oils?
Sounds interesting :)
I think that, like many treatments, people will respond differently to it. Although many of our desi beauty remedies involve the above ingredients.
I've heard of saffron, mixed with water, used for dark lips. I don't know what the oil would be used for. Turmeric, I've read has antiseptic properties. Chandan is used in ubtan. Methic (fenugreek), i've heard is commonly used to stop hair fall and promote hair growth. And cinnamon, I've heard promotes blood circulation and even weight loss (I think).
Grind all of the above into a fine paste add a little water to make it into a paste if needed. Leave it as long as u can.
Clearer skin:
1 tablespoon almond powder
1/2 teaspoon besan
1/4 teaspoon yoghurt
and enuff lemon juice to make it into a paste.
Leave it on for 20 mins and wash it off.
I've noticed that yogurt makes skin feel smoother and gives a glow. And I recently bought the herablism soap bar from Lush and that contains almonds for exfoliation. And lemon is so versatile :) Besan, I've used sometimes, because it absorbs excess oil.
Do you have any recommendations for antioxidant creams/moisturizers?
