Ayman - boys name?

We are thinking of naming our son Ayman, but despite the fact that everywhere we look - online and in Muslim name books - it says it’s an Arabic boys name, many people keep saying it’s a girls name in Pakistan. There are many Arab men with the name ayman and even the Quran mentions a lady called umm ayman, or mother of ayman, as she had a son named ayman. So why oh why is this considered a girls name in Pakistan when it’s clearly not?

Re: Ayman - boys name?

The name meaning-wise can apply to any - boy or girl. It means the Right-side one (or Righteous) as far as I understand, comes from the arabic root word "yaman" meaning "right (side)". In Pakistan, people due to lack of understanding of Arabic language name their daughters "Ayman" after "Umm Ayman" without reflecting at the meaning which is "mother of Ayman".
