Deepak Chopra- the universe is an awareness
What’s with his obsession with concept of awareness? He constantly mentions expanding awareness etc..

Re: awareness
Well it follows that the universe around us is abstracted to us by what we perceive to be that universe ... It is the universe because we are aware of it. Likewise when our domain of knowledge expands our universe expands and more literally we had to look quite hard to realise that the universe is expanding and that discovery deemed us to be more aware of our universe - in how it functions.
So the concept of the universe is something that grows and that is constituted of creation ... Likewise if a thought is our creation in the mind then the universe of our thoughts is the state of realisation we dwell in. I think that is where he is coming from ...
Re: awareness
Hmm, makes sense. But what I don't get is does h mean there's infinite things to become aware of or whatever we imagine or think can be turned into awareness?. Hmm tough concept.isn't it just a nicer way of saying never stop seeking knowledge etc
Re: awareness
may be he means "Bodh" which when dawned upon king siddarth he became buddha.
you can also call it enlightenment. lost in translation may be..
Re: awareness
Most of his stuff is silliness.
For example he said in one place; Cells of body constantly die.
He said one year old dies to become two year and two year dies to become three year. I know it is metaphoric issue before someone comes in high horses to tell me.
He also said it is not difficult to explain people in medical terms that 98% of my body atoms are gone by next year. :D
**"SI*: When a patient comes to you from a traditional medical perspective, identifying themselves with the body, or the emotions, or the mind, which most of us do, how do you help them go beyond that? *
DC: It’s possible these days to talk in medical terminology and convince people that the shelf life of molecules is very short. Ninety-eight percent of all the atoms in my body are gone by next year. The physical body that I’m using to speak with you right now is not the one I had last year. If I identify myself as my body, then I certainly have a dilemma. Which one am I talking about? The shelf life of emotions is a little longer. But if I identify myself with my emotions, again I have a dilemma. Which one am I talking about? The shelf life of my psychological make-up is even longer. But that is changing all the time, hopefully in an evolutionary direction. But I’m none of those things because it is obvious that I am outliving those things."
But that's just plain rubbish.
Re: awareness
Yea its a bunch of fluff, but the thread was about awareness ;) what's your opinion on that, oh mighty one with comprehension issues.
Re: awareness
Have not read any of his books. Always enjoyed his interviews when he used to come on Larry King or other shows. Done want to get OP mad - but nothing more to offer on the honorable Dr. Chopra

I know it is about 'awareness'. I was merely giving some examples why I think he just talks mumbo jumbo. Sorry.
His three or four types of 'awareness' or 'consciousness' discussion is also weird/senseless and very disconnected.. to say the least.
I do know someone will come and say since I didn't get that concept that is why I am saying this. :D
Sure! ;)

Re: awareness
**Awareness is the state or ability to perceive, to feel, or to be conscious of events, objects or sensory patterns. In this level of consciousness, sense data can be confirmed by an observer without necessarily implying understanding. More broadly, it is the state or quality of being aware of something. In biological psychology, awareness is defined as a human’s or an animal’s perception and cognitive reaction to a condition or event.
