Avatars...

A trivial isuue, I will nonetheless put my two cents in…

I like to browse different forums and come across these forums where there are humungous avatars of people, some, which people made themselves. They are lavish and lively

An avatar is not only a picture which conveys who you are but sometimes says a lot about you. Sometimes on these different forums, I like to just browse to see the different avatars, and some of them are beautiful.

The excuse that big avatars tend to distract one from the main objective of a discussion is a lame one. Any message that is worth reading will be read and responded too even if you had an avatar covering half a page.

Coming to GupShup and seeing these tiny, pathetically dismal avatars gives one the impression that we are saving space and bandwidth by resorting to avatar reduction. And I know we are not because the 75 kb upload limit has been enlarged to 110.

I think rich and colorful avatars add life to a forum. These moving, colorful pictures would add ambience to GS, unlike this hospital decor. Seeing these avatars, you recognize people by them. You don’t even have to look at names after a certain while.

Anyway, it would be a welcome addition to GS without any much extra effort.

At this point we have no plans to change our avatar policy. Your feedback, as always, is valuable. Thanks.
