Automotive Industry

Anybody working in automotive industry?

Yep- I have been working for a car maufacturer for 9 years. I started off as an engineer and now am a department manager. What would you like to know?

Wow! 9 yrs. Well I will be entering the automotive industry and I will find out in 8 months if thats where I want to go. I myself would prefer the management side.

Have you worked with the MOST system for your company?

Yes- I did some training a while back and am a certified MOST practitioner. But haven't used computer MOST though. Very good technique and surprisingly accurate too. I have had many robotic cells installed using MOST for the process study and they all work.

Oh by the way, good luck and I hope you like it! It is very tough though, depending on where you are working. Certainly in Production, it is a nightmare!!

That is quite understandable. The auotomotive industry itself is very competitive. Atleast I will know whether I am good at it or not. I will be working for the Engineering & Design department in the area of Electronics. This would be an internship so i am guessing they won't give me a very hard time. :-D

Are you the department manager for the production department? And I am assuming in 9 yrs you must have worked in various areas of your company..

A certified MOST practitioner? Who offers the certification and what role does it play in the industry? I have been sent a brief description of the project I will be working on and it seems to be quite challenging and fun. :-D The interesting thing is that I will be working on the project alone. :~)

I am assuming every company has its own MOST system? How did you guys test the components of your MOST system?

Are there any sources/websites you would recommend which can be used as a good reference?

and feel free to mention any suggestions or advise which you think I should keep in mind. from 9 yrs of ur experience .. you must have something to say ..thanxx :~)

Sorry for the delay. MOST actually stands for Maynard's Operating Sequence Technique and was developed by an american called Maynard. He owns the system and therefore to practice the system, you need tyo get a license. There are many companies around that teach MOST in industry- they normally have licenses from the owner. That was the case a few years ago, I am not sure whether you still need a license or not.

If you need any help with your project, you can send me a PM with your e-mail. I will try to help if I can.

hmm the MOST i was talking about stands for Media Oriented Systems Transport which is a multimedia fiber-optic network optimized for automotive applications. It is a network developed by the automotive industry for the automotive industry. Its design allows it to provide a low-overhead and low-cost interface for the simplest of devices.

BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Harman/Becker and OASIS SiliconSystems founded the MOST Cooperation in 1998 to standardize the MOST Technology.

And from what I know MOST systems are built in my company.

Perhaps you guys didn't have this at your time. :-P
