Autoimmune disease and TTC/pregnancy

Hi there,

I recently found out that I have autoimmune disease and have to wait a few months to see a few different specialists in order to understand how I can conceive and stay pregnant with this disease.

I am ABSOLUTELY devastated to hear this news…and I think it explains the miscarriage I had last year. I can’t even start “trying” yet because my body is dangerous to a potential fetus.

I’m so miserable, I don’t know what to do. I’m so depressed and feel like my life is not worth living. I am an ONLY child and always dreamed of having many children and now I don’t even know if my future holds any children at all.

Does anyone have experience with automimmune disease and pregnany or know anyone in this situation? I want to know what the chances of having a healthy baby and carrying it to full term are because everything I’m reading online says that it will be a miracle to even have a healthy baby with this condition.

The tears are streaming down my face as I write this…I’m sooo unhappy. Also hoping someone can tell me some good duas that I can say that will help make me healthy and able to have healthy children InshAllah.

Re: Autoimmune disease and TTC/pregnancy

I am sorry to hear about your situation. What autoimmune disease is it? I know there are several autoimmune diseases that can be controlled and treated.

Don't stress yourself. Wait to see a specialist. Specialists are a lot more experienced and better equipped to deal with these conditions. Family practitioners usually have limited knowledge and can't help much. I am sure once you see a specialist, you'll feel more at ease.

I am sure inshaAllah you'll be blessed with lots of children but be patient and just get treated. I know tons of people who were told they could not conceive but did and have healthy kids now. Keep praying, have faith in God and stay positive. I know it's easier said than done but do try and you'll feel a lot better!

Which one is it?

Re: Autoimmune disease and TTC/pregnancy

candy apple - it's too soon to tell anything. You need to talk to your docs and fertility specialist about your disease and how it would effect your pregnancy.

The internet is a useful tool but its filled with scary stories that might not be relevant to you.

After you have exhausted your options in the end there are many ways you can have a still have a child - adoption, surrogacy to name a few.

Please keep faith - and tons of duas for you.

candy_apple if you believe on Allah then you should also believe that no soul can come into this world without his will. It does not matter if you have any disease or not if Allah wants you to have a baby you will (Insha Allah). Make dua to Allah and listen to doctor's advise. Ask your mom to make dua for you because mom's dua are answered the most. Just have faith that nothing is impossible for Almighty and He can do anything He want.

Re: Autoimmune disease and TTC/pregnancy

I have antithyroid antibodies, anticardiolipin antibodies and am positive for rheumatoid factor as well.

On top of that, I am waiting to see a specialist to determine if I have celiacs disease as well because some of my tests show that I may have gluten allergy but this is not confirmed yet.

I am mainly worried about the antithyroid antibodies and anticardiolipin antibodies as these confirm that I have autoimmune disease which greatly increases chances of miscarriage and birth defects in babies.

Am trying to stay positive but currently very depressed.
