Australian authors

has anyone here read any books by Shaun Tan?..he’s an Australian and i think only writes children’s fiction

na.. ive only read Broken Bangles by Haseena Dean.. she was like a 3rd generation pakistani here in aus.. she calls herself an australian :)

what kinda books does Shaun Tan write?

He writes childrens books, the illistrations are AMAZING and some of his books have won awards.

Anyway, hes written this one particular book called "the Rabbits" and apparantly its all about Austrailan history.

I just wanted somone to clarify something as i dnt really get the book, i just love the pictures.

what did u want clarrified? i havent read the book.. but since im partly aussie, maybe i can help :)

aww bless ur so cute, i wish i could read the book to you, its a childrens book so its nowt major. Someone told me the book was about Australian history, its all about the "rabbits" destroying land and i just wanted to know who the "rabbits" were?

interesting.. tell u what… i’ll go to a bookstore during my lunch and read it. And tell u who these rabbits were… :k:

i officially love you sadzzz

thanks soo much :flower1:

umms ok so i didnt go yesterday cus it was raining (ok i lie.. i was stuck on GS and it was raining)

i will inshallah go today.. hehe

ok dude.. i read it :)

just as i suspected its about the british coming over and taking over the land.

Its written from an aboriginie's point of view. They ruled this land for many hundred years.. and then the british came here on ships (captian cook u know) and brought convicts who colonised here..

in regards to stealing their babies.. thats about the aussies "kidnapping" the aboriginie babies..

its a pretty neat book and has sooo many emotions put into such lil words.. amazing

thank you soo soo soo soooo much...i absolutly love u to bits for doing this to for me!!!

Isnt it the most amazing book..the illustrations are amazing and i love the format...i love kids books!!!

and i think i love Shaun Tan too...when i have some more money im gona inshallah buy all of his books that are published so far. Hes got a new one coming out next year!! i cant wait.

you have children dont u?

you should read Shaun Tan books to them...i cant wait to read books to my kids

I dont influence their reading patterns. They are welcome to choose whatever they want from the library. I dont believe in forcing down my choices on them.

i didnt mean it like that…sorry if you took offence, i would never force anybody to read anything…i was just saying they are good books…u know what?..never mind

sorry love :flower1:

didnt take it as an offence, its cool.

Garth Nix is an excellent Australian author who writes quality young-adult fare.

Two of his most famous works, recently published outside Australia are Sabriel](Amazon.com: Sabriel (Old Kingdom, 1): 9780064471831: Nix, Garth, Dillon, Leo and Diane: Books) and Shade’s Children](Amazon.com: Shade's Children: 9780064471961: Nix, Garth: Books).

In the same vein is another Australian author, who goes by the pseudonym of Lian Hearn and has written The Tales of the Otori](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/series/-/88015/ref=pd_sr_ec_ser_b/104-7063482-7425542) set in a medieval oriental setting with characters which feel surprisingly good and Three dimensional compared to the shallowness that floats the young-adult boat these days.
