Australian anger over London bombings

Looks like Australians are more angry than the British …

Importing hatred

It’s time we accepted the difficult truth: many of the Muslims we invite to live in Australia want to destroy us.

FOR four years, since the September 11 attacks, I’ve begged our Islamic leaders to drive extremists from their mosques.
For four years I’ve also reassured you that most Muslims here are moderate.

I’ve even insisted they have some moderate Muslim leaders, and last week again endorsed Sheik Fehmi Naji El-Imam of Preston mosque as a man of peace.

How eager I was to praise. Heavens, I described as “moderate” the Melbourne-based Islamic Information Services Network of Australia (IISNA), which purged from its website articles I’d noted claiming democracy was a sin, Jews were behind September 11 and Western society was a pollution.

But was I just kidding myself? Isn’t it becoming terribly clear that Islam – at least the Islam of Australia’s Arab sheiks and imams – is hostile to our society?

Isn’t it now obvious we should never have let into our country those imams who now preach hate?

Isn’t the evidence that some cultures – Muslim Arab ones – pose more problems than their importation at this rate is worth? Isn’t multiculturalism making these problems worse?

I know these are dangerous, hurtful questions. I also know many Muslims will feel deeply offended, loving this country and obeying its laws, and I wish only I heard from them far more often.

But the London bombings, perpetrated by home-grown Muslims, makes our silence on such issues not a sign of civility, but suicide.

So let me admit that the past few days have been terrible for those of us who thought we could count on Muslim leaders for real help against the Muslim extremists who threaten us.

Such setbacks we’ve had.

Only last week I’d praised Sheik Fehmi as a good man, who’d condemned the London bombings. But a day later he was asked about fellow Melbourne sheik Mohammed Omran, a friend of a suspected al-Qaida boss, who’d claimed September 11 was really the work of a US-based conspiracy.

“He is entitled to his own thinking,” Fehmi replied meekly. Then, asked if Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaida terrorists had committed those attacks, he added: “We cannot say. We do not know these things.”

How can Muslim leaders fight terrorism, when the most moderate of them won’t condemn even bin Laden, or admit that monster’s self-confessed guilt?

Fehmi was not my only disappointment. I checked the IISNA site this week, and among the announcements of classes and prayers found this advice to a reader who’d asked if it was a sin to kill non-Muslims:

"In regard to non-Muslims who are at war with the Muslims and do not have a peace treaty with the Muslims or are not living under Muslim rule, then Muslims are commanded to kill them, because Allah says . . . ‘Fight those of the disbelievers who are close to you, and let them find harshness in you.’ "

If that’s advice passed on by a “moderate” Islamic group, what must the radical ones here say?

Well, we know that, too. In a Melbourne bookshop run by Omran a Herald Sun reporter this month found books being sold that command Muslims to ready for war and to hate Jews.

In Sydney last week, the Islamic Bookshop, Australia’s largest of the kind, was found (again) selling similar poison near the Lakemba mosque, including a book with tips on how to blow yourself up and kill plenty.

“The form this usually takes nowadays is to wire up one’s body, or a vehicle or a suitcase with explosives and then to enter among a conglomeration of the enemy and to detonate,” it says.

“There is no other technique which strikes as much terror into their hearts.”

Again and again we’re told such things aren’t typical. Apologists, too often Muslim converts with little clout among ethnic groups, claim Islam means peace. But again and again we are left feeling like dupes.

The genuinely charming Waleed Aly, of the Islamic Council of Victoria, goes on 3AW to tell us the radical Mufti of Australia, Sheik Taj el-Din el-Hilaly, who has praised suicide bombers as “heroes” and called the September 11 attacks “God’s work against oppressors”, is not a big worry because he represents no one. Aly says he doesn’t even know who made the man a mufti, our highest ranking Islamic cleric.

But the truth, Waleed, is that your own council voted to make Hilaly the Mufti in a decision of the Federation of Islamic Councils of Australia. Why won’t you sack him?

Everywhere disappointment. Hilaly’s spokesman, Keysar Trad, soothes us with false claims that the Mufti is misquoted and is a proud Australian, but he turns out himself to have been a translator for the Islamic Youth Movement, a pro-bin Laden group whose leader, Bilal Khazal, now faces terrorism-related charges in Sydney.

We also find Trad has written articles with lines such as: “The criminal dregs of white society colonised this country (Australia) and . . . the descendants of these criminal dregs tell us that they are better than us.”

Faced with such evidence whichever way I turn, what else can I think about Islam – or Arab Islam, at least – but that it is an enemy of our culture, our society? And I ask: How did we come to let in the extremist preachers of such a hostile creed?

Why did we let in sheiks such as the Jordanian-born Omran, who declares Islam rejects democracy and instructs Muslims to go to Iraq to fight coalition troops? Why did we let in the Egyptian-born Hilaly?

But so much that we did in the name of multiculturalism was dangerously naive. Just think: only a few years ago the jihad-preaching Islamic Youth Movement, which met in Hilaly’s mosque, was given three grants – two state multicultural grants to run language classes and one work-for-the-dole grant to smarten up its offices.

Then there was all that other multicultural pampering to help Muslim ethnic groups here keep their distance, their “identity”.

In March, the Victorian Multicultural Commission, whose grants budget the Bracks Government has tripled, even ran a football carnival for teenagers who were split into ethnic teams – the Turks playing the Greeks, the Lebanese the Jews and so on.

Does this make any sense in a society where the urgent need now is not to reinforce old tribal loyalties, but dissolve them in a warm pool called “Australia”?

As you figure the answer, remember that Lebanese Australian children at the Muslim-dominated Moreland Secondary College, now closed after non-Muslim students fled, danced for joy at the September 11 attacks. Remember Lebanese ethnic gangs are strong in Sydney.

How hapless we’ve been, refusing to admit we were importing a problem that multiculturalism could only make worse.

For example, we have allowed into Australia Lebanese – many of them Muslim – who are often uneducated, unskilled and poor

in English. Their Islam was yet another barrier to their assimilation.

The results were as predictable as they were politely ignored – a jobless rate and imprisonment rate double that of other Australians. Gangs. Poverty. A near ghetto in Lakemba.

What an unholy recipe: First we build a vulnerable underclass of unassimilated people with a religion of rejection. Then we let loose on them imported radicals preaching a hatred of our society; teachers who instruct them in the shame of our history; and multiculturalists who pay them to keep their distance and retain their much nicer ways.

A LL this always was foolish. Now we see it was dangerous as well, since British-born Muslims bred in a similar stew of multiculturalism, ethnic enclaves and Islamist extremism, have gone to war.

We need now to change ideas once thought sacred by our cultural elite.

First, we must be more wary about the dangers of importing cultures that clash with the one that has built this free, rich and democratic society.

As a former Chief Justice, the late Sir Harry Gibbs, said in 2002: “A state is entitled to prevent the immigration of persons whose culture is such that they are unlikely readily to integrate into society, or at least to ensure that persons of that kind do not enter the country in such numbers that they will be likely to form a distinct and alien section of society, with the resulting problems that we have seen in the UK.”

Second, we must ban mosques from hiring imams from overseas, or at least those who preach race hate or damn democracy. If Islam does mean peace, let only peace be preached.

And, third, we must show more pride in this country, and switch our multicultural cash from funding division to building unity.

After all, the duty of government is to make one nation out of many tribes – and not the deadly reverse.

Re: Australian anger over London bombings

This coming from a society that until the 1980's had an Keep Australia White Policy?

Re: Australian anger over London bombings

I totally agree with the author of this article. I personally know many arab freinds in USA who talk dirty about usa and west in their private living rooms and praise bin laden but when they come out in public, they change the tune.

Well, these muslims are entitled to their own opinion but for god sake, come out clean…either quit West and go back to your countries or stand up for your ideas and openly declare them in western public but stop living like pimps…you want to work in west, you want to raise your kids here, you want the western money but you want to talk ****tt about them in private…I have expressed my opinions in another thread and i am copying the link here…

http://www.paklinks.com/gs/showthread.php?t=188057

Some interesting thoughts put forward by Ayaz Mir in his weekly column for DAWN:

  • “It is no use saying that Islam is a religion of peace or that there is a foul plot afoot to misrepresent Islam and blacken its name when from Bali to Madrid to London it is Muslims who are behind acts of terrorism. To outsiders a religion is known by the fruits it produces and if the present brand of terrorism has a Muslim substance to it, it becomes difficult to sell the ‘true meaning of Islam’. It is like trying to say that what was practiced in the Soviet Union was not true communism. No one has the time or inclination to grapple with such fine theories.”*

And I have to agree with what he is saying. No one has time to listen to stupid Muslim representatives after every bombing incident trying to explain that these bombers are not one of us. Yeah right!!! For God sake….If they are not one of us then where are they from? Are they Jewish? I mean, just look at the names of these terrorists. Shezad Tanveer, Haseeb Hussain!! Do they sound strange to any of us? I love when Ayaz said that no one has time to grapple with such fine theories. Really no one has time to listen to these stupid speeches anymore. It is clearly getting monotonous.

Let me make one thing crystal clear. The hypocrite Muslims living in the West, including myself, should understand that they cannot have the best of both worlds forever. I know countless Muslims here in USA who, in the privacy of their homes with their Muslim friends, justify these terror acts attributing them to American Invasion of Middle East and Western Imperialism. Ok fine, you have absolutely every right to be entitled to your own opinion but brother, don’t sing to a different tune when you are at your office with your fellow western co- workers just because you don’t want to quit the West. The point I am trying to make that the Western World will run out of patience very soon and instead of listening to your stupid analogies that “those terrorist are not one of us” they are going to grab you from your collar and throw you in ocean with your families. And I say why not.

      So:

a) Either the Muslims in West should come out clean and stop displacing the blame on USA for everything with a full realization of the very fact that there is something that has gone terribly wrong with the interpretation of their religion Islam among their young generation in last 20 years or so and it is about time to do something concrete about it.

      OR

b) They should have the guts to stand up in the same western societies where they live and point out collectively the causes behind the terrorism which they believe are the real catalysts for these incidents. Write articles in newspapers, arrange conferences etc.

But one has to quit the double life otherwise inevitable reality would occur anyway!!

Re: Australian anger over London bombings

Why whenever some act of terrorism occurs, we jump on "muslims did it" bandwagon. Then we have Muslim Scholars apologetic for muslims actions. A muslim ceases to be a muslim if he preaches viloence or oppresses people. Name one nation that follows Islam in its essence. From Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Saudi Arabia, There is not a single country that practices Islam. We are contributing to our own demise. We are oppressed because we dont stand up for our rights. We have lost faith in God and have now resorted to whatever we perceive to be right as opposed to what is right.

Re: Australian anger over London bombings

He may be right or wrong this time but he never ever misses a chance to write against Muslims. He has written countless articles on Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), palestinians, September 11, terrorism etc etc and NEVER EVER he wrote something positive.
He supports ISRAEL's stance on palestine and i wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be a JEW.

Re: Australian anger over London bombings

all these articles and authors are israeli agents staying in us and uk and other countreis,

this is their way of doing propoganda against muslims,

theya re trtying to divide muslims now by saying as a group of extremists and other who are non arabs they term them as neutral or modern muslims,

all these things are policies of jews and christians to destroy the status ofmuslims from the society and to divide them and rule on them.!!

John Major agrees:

Deport all who ‘spit hate’ - Major
25 July 2005

People who “spit hate” at the British way of life should be deported, Tory former Prime Minister John Major said.

Mr Major spoke of the “uncomfortable reality” that many terrorists were born or lived in the UK but had been taught to hate its culture.

“There seem to be many people who, for reasons that are irrational, dislike the Anglo-Saxon way of life,” he said.

He called for heavier penalties for those who incited violence at this “particularly sensitive time”.

“Always difficult to balance this against freedom of speech but I think, at the moment, it is justifiable to protect the public,” he argued.

Mr Major added: “As far as those who literally spit hate at our country and there are some of them - they spit hate at our country and they incite - I personally would be prepared to deport those where it is clear that what they are doing is causing civil unrest and may cost other people, as a result of that, their lives.”

Re: Australian anger over London bombings

Mr Howard has run-in with an Imam:

Radical cleric hits out at PM
Dennis Shanahan and Steve Lewis
July 25, 2005
THE nation’s most radical Muslim cleric, Sheik Mohammed Omran, last night accused John Howard of being “inflammatory” as a war of words erupted between the religious leader and the Prime Minister over the responsibility of Muslim leaders to denounce terrorism.

Speaking in London at the weekend, Mr Howard singled out the Melbourne-based sheik, describing as “appalling” his recent comments that Osama bin Laden “in effect is a good man and the attacks in London were the responsibility of the Americans”.

Sheik Omran, who has said there was no proof bin Laden was behind the September 11 attacks, said in the wake of the deadly July 7 London bombings he doubted Muslims were involved and it was more likely the attacks were orchestrated by the US to justify its war on Islam.

In a statement issued last night in the form of an open letter to Mr Howard, Sheik Omran defended his views as reasonable and accused the Prime Minister of promoting fear by referring to potential suicide bombers within Australian communities.

“Australia does not have a culture of suicide bombers, (Attorney-General) Philip Ruddock himself has stated that the threat to Australia is minimal,” the sheik’s letter reads.

“This statement does nothing but entice fear into the hearts of Australians. It is your statement which is ‘inflammatory’.”

On the Nine Network’s 60 Minutes last night, Sheik Omran again defended bin Laden, saying the US Government and not the al-Qa’ida leader was responsible for the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington.

“I believe there is a … conspiracy against Islams and Muslims,” he said. “There is a mastermind behind these things and the mastermind is 100 per cent … from the US Government.”

At a press conference in London Mr Howard hit out at religious leaders who did not exercise their obligation not to incite hatred.

“There is an obligation of tolerance and respect on the part of all of us for bona fide different views on religion and politics and so forth,” he said.

“But there is a reciprocal obligation on leaders of communities, be they religious or otherwise, not to incite hatred, not to preach intolerance and that’s a responsibility Islamic leaders in Australia carry very heavily. I think some have not been as strong in denouncing these acts as they should have been.”

A spokesman for radical group Hizb ut-Tahrir, Wassim Doureihi, said Mr Howard’s comments were an attack on the core of Islam and that his group, which is being investigated for links to one of the London bombers, would continue to recruit new members in Australia.

“It is becoming more and more clear that the issue is Islam itself, not just radicals or moderates,” Mr Doureihi said. “(Mr Howard) is implying we should not advocate an Islam that is a threat to Western capitalism.”

Increased tensions between the Prime Minister and Muslim leaders came as Egyptian authorities arrested 35 people involved in a string of suicide bombings that killed at least 88 people in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh over the weekend.

British authorities were also on the defensive last night after they admitted wrongly killing a Brazilian man, 27-year-old electrician Jean Charles de Menezes, on a London train last Friday. He was suspected of being an Islamic terrorist and shot five times in the head.

The shooting came just two weeks after four near-simultaneous bombs killed 56 people in the British capital, including one Australian.

In London, Mr Howard indicated he would be prepared to call a special anti-terror summit involving the Labor premiers to discuss tightening terror laws, especially improving public transport security through the use of closed-circuit television.

“Of all the things that I have taken out of the few days I have been in London, none has been more powerful than the huge value of surveillance cameras,” the Prime Minister said.

Premiers last night supported better national co-ordination of counter-terrorism. One option is an unscheduled meeting of the Council of Australian Governments to discuss the issue.

South Australian Premier Mike Rann said state and federal governments had to “sit down and discuss as a nation whether or not the threat of terrorism in Australia now warrants these tougher anti-terrorism laws”.

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie also backed an early COAG meeting, saying: “We’re happy to work with the Commonwealth on this because protecting Queenslanders is one of our fundamental priorities.”

Re: Australian anger over London bombings

The reply:

Dear Prime Minister,

I have read your comments directed at me through a local newspaper. These comments are inaccurate and contradictory.

I believe you are aware that the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jam’ah Association of Australia has repeatedly denounced acts of terrorism through numerous media outlets. In fact we have said that such acts are strongly prohibited both in the media and in our sermons.

It is true that I have reserved my judgment on the identity of those who committed these atrocities. However, you have erred in claiming that I laid responsibility of the London bombings on the Americans. I have never made such a statement. Rather, I am not satisfied that the individuals behind these evil acts have an Islamic agenda. Events since September 11, through to the Bali bombings, and now the recent London bombings, have mainly brought harm unto Muslims worldwide.

I also believe it is wrong of you and the media to regard my doubts as unreasonable. There have been 1.1 million (or more) websites online and 3000 books published discussing different opinions as to the perpetrators of this act.

Australia does not have a culture of suicide bombers. Phillip Ruddock himself has stated that the threat to Australia is minimal. This statement of yours does nothing but entice fear into the hearts of Australians. It is your statement which is ‘inflammatory’.

Most suicide bombers are not driven by religion, but rather by secular and political goals. Associate Professor Richard Pape from the University of Chicago has conducted a comprehensive study of every act of suicide terrorism over the past 25 years. He concludes that suicide bombers are not motivated by “hate of Western values” or that they “hate being immersed in Western society”, but rather by “military policies, especially foreign combat troops on territory that they prize”. He added that more than 50% are motivated by secular goals.

Ahlus Sunnah wal Jam’ah Association of Australia is a mainstream Islamic organization which aims to call our Australian people to the truth of Islam in a peaceful manner. We have been doing so for over two decades. We consider ourselves Australians working for the betterment of Australia. Those of us who came from other countries appreciate how the people of this country have accepted us with open arms. Islam teaches us to appreciate kindness and we wouldn’t do anything to betray this gesture. We are more than willing to meet and work with our fellow Australians towards making our country a safer place.

We chose Australia to be our country unlike others who had no option but to be Australian, and like most Australians, will be eagerly anticipating an Australian victory in the Ashes series.

Yours Sincerely
Sheikh M Omran
Secretary General
Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah Association of Australia

^^ Nice spin. Here is somebody who is quick at seeing the handwriting on the wall.

Re: Australian anger over London bombings

It sounds like this guy's coating himself with a fresh layer of slime in hopes of wriggling out of getting his worthless little organization shut down. I doubt it will work.

Someone slap him please...what a moron!!!

Re: Australian anger over London bombings

There you go…that is exactly what i want muslims to do…I dont care what their opinions are but i want them to stand up and talk about their issues in western public…stand up and declare your opinions in public…dont be a bigot…there is absolutely nothing wrong in accusing USA to be the master mind behind all these attacks…write articles in newspapers, hold conferences, give TV interviews…be aggressive in a positive way…on the other hand, if you really hate bin laden and his views and you suport america’s war on terrorism then oppose it with open heart…in short words, it is time for action…you cant live in West with double standards anymore…so great job Sheikh Omran:clap::clap::clap:

you are the real man…at least you spoke your mind.

Re: Australian anger over London bombings

well, at least he wrote an open letter to a current PM and asked him to shut up…and at least he has openly declared that these terror acts are not done by muslims but by some secular people who have no islamic agenda at all. at least he said some thing in open with a little bit of courage.
