but again the new generation of bowlers are found wanting to match the performance or the next Mcgrath, Mcdermott...and the list goes on :D

Even though it will be very hard to practically imagine the record being broken, I am sure one day it will be overshadowed. Thus, the likelihood of the equation “All records are meant to be broken” will continue to equate to true.

Wow, what a performance from SA and for Aussies, what a setback. I'm glad that they lost the series since it gives boost to SA to kick the heck out of them during the tests.
Really, it shows once again that one "single" player's presence or absence can make a huge difference. Yea, in Aus's case, it was McGrath or even Shane Warne. In any case, when I read the top thread of 872 runs, I couldn't believe that it might have happened. Than, I went to CricInfo and they regarded it as the "greatest"match of all time. No woner, if one can chase 434, the teams deserve to make the greatest game of all time...
Any highlights from both Aus and SA innings would be appreciated greatly.

Oh My God 
I left this match when saffies were 110-1. And next I heard they were 304-3 in 32 overs. This has to be the freakiest match every played. It speaks of a gigantic battng performance from Both teams and then ridiculous backup bowling resources.
Just awesome!!! I really dont know what to say. But I can say one thing for sure. If someone comes and say to my face that aussie have the best bench strength, I will roll on the floor laughing.

That fact still stands !!
The Australia "A" side is still capable of beating any other test playing nation.

Bull**** man...Saying that the Australia "A" team can beat any team in the world is absolutely ridiculous. Australia have no bowlers whatsoever, McGrath and Lee are their best ones, and McGrath is sure as hell going to retire soon. Michael Hussey is the best player on the Australia A side, and he has come to the international side, so they have absolutely no one left!!! Soon they will be like Pakistan, getting lucky and winning a couple of games. I would like to see the reaction of this entire board to that comment, haha.

And such is the fact, even though it might be hard to cope for the time being.
Losing a high-scoring run chase does not necessarily mean that the single dominating team in the cricketing world has lost everything from all four corners. As I have mentioned before as well, this is "once in a blue moon" opportunity, and hence, should be termed the same.
Come World Cup, I am sure Australia will continue to be the first team on the list of most people, regardless of the nations they originate from (or are living now).

Bench strength. I wonder what bowling bench strength they have after Warne & McGrath if they can't defend 434. Our fast slow bowler Pathan could have defended 434. :P Hell, Bangladeshi spinners can defend 434.

This may be a match which will reshape the future of ODI cricket. This may be begining of the end of Australian deminance in ODI cricket.
This match will a take confidence of South African to a different level. They will now be unstoppable.

People tend to detest the powerful.
USA in politics ....Australia in Cricket...(come to think of it...Ponting even resembles Bush).
Guys who have posted above make it seem as though Aussies were outplayed in this match. They friggin scored 435 and lost by 1 damn wicket.
Plus, in my opinion, setting a 400+ target requires more character than chasing it down (when you really have nothing to lose since for all practical purposes you have already lost the game - like it was in SA's case)
And need I elaborate the quality of the following players who for different reasons did not feature in this match :
-McGrath
-Warne
-Hayden
-Langer
-Gillespie
-Kasprowiscz
and more....
This is a problem of plenty my friends....they even have a second Gilchrist in Hadin. How's that for Bench Strength !!

Some1 ,Mchrath, and Warne are in last years. Others have beem more dropped rather than rested..

This seems to the be the 1st incident in recent history when Aussies have actually panicked ( apart from Bangla match in England). I was reading ball by ball commentary on cricinfo and the comentator clearly mentioend that Aussies ahve actually panicked coz of the way SMith and Gibbs were playing. Making 223 in 24 overs was something. Then actually SA were ahead of Aus RR during the whole match.
It was equally thirlling to READ the match rather then watch it.. I am still searching and waiting to get hold of the match.. ..
