PERTH, Australia (Reuters) - England have collapsed to 185 all out after tea on the first day of the third Ashes cricket test, with strike bowler Brett Lee taking three wickets.
Glenn McGrath and Jason Gillespie also bagged two wickets each as the tourists were dismissed within 65 overs.
Robert Key top scored for England with 47 and openers Michael Vaughan and Marcus Trescothick both made 34 but none of the other recognised batsmen made it to double figures.
Here are the highlights of Friday’s play.
England captain Nasser Hussain won the toss for the third time in the series.
Trescothick survived an early chance on one when he edged Gillespie between Gilchrist and Shane Warne at first slip, with both fielders leaving the ball for each other.
Trescothick hit Gillespie for three fours in the same over after Justin Langer failed to hold a difficult catch at gully.
Trescothick smashed two boundaries of Lee’s first over but the Australian paceman got his revenge when Trescothick edged behind for 34 in his next over. 47-1.
Mark Butcher run out for nine at the non-striker’s end after a brilliant piece of fielding from Australian captain Steve Waugh who threw down the stumps from cover point. 69-2.
Hussain given out caught behind by Gilchrist for eight attempting a wild hook off Lee. 83-3.
Vaughan departed shortly after lunch to a dreadful pull shot, caught behind off McGrath for 34. 101-4. Alec Stewart, off an equally bad shot, was caught behind off the same bowler for seven. 111-5.
Craig White fell for two, caught in the slips by Damien Martyn off Lee. 121-6.
Alex Tudor caught at slip by Martyn off Warne for a duck. 135-7.
Key out in the last over before tea for 47, dragging part-time seamer Martyn back on to his stumps. 156-8
Chris Silverwood out for 10, caught at gully by Matthew Hayden off Gillespie. 173-9.
Gillespie bowled Steve Harmison for six. England all out 185.
Lets admit it the Aussies are head and shoulders above everyone else. The fight is for the second place. It reminds me of the great Jehangir during the 80's when he was so far ahead of anyone else that the interest in the tournmanets used to be who is going to come second. The same is now in cricket for the moment anyway. Yes once in a while they stumble like they did in India and against Pakistan in Australia recently but overall, no contest.
In test they are completely dominant, no team can be close to them but in one days its a very close contest but they still are the better of all the teams.
As long as they have Matthew Hayden in their team they will be completely dominant in the batting department.
