This popularity of 20/20 is worrying me. It will get boring really quickly and all batsmen will turn into Afridis. Call me conservative, but I pray that this format does not become too popular. Australia will win, just to answer your question Ehsan bhai.

yeah 20/20 sux big time. these days i enjoy test cricket more than ODI and this 20/20 is nothing more than a lota to me.

It's not actually the first,the first was between Australia and New-Zealand earlier in the year which Australia won.So Australia have won the first ever Test-match,first ever One-Day International and now the first ever 20-20 match.Pretty Awesome.

Well ICC wants to promote cricket in places where cricket never was followed and played. I read some where thhat they are also planning to introduce it in Olympics in 2012 or 2016. For that they have to introduce the shortest version of the game so cricket can gain popularity in other countries as well. ICC thinks that people who do not have much cricketing sense specially in non-cricketing playing nations will be able to gain interest in the game through 20/20. For those people 5 days of cricket or even one whole day of cricket is too much. I personally think that for test cricket playing nations or their fans it shouldn’t be worrying factor. A true cricket fan who has developed the taste of test cricket and ODI will never be able to enjoy 20/20 over test cricket or ODI for too long.

I was referring to the first 20/20 match between England and Australia. Personally I find them boring, they are no patch on the ODI’s.

The thing is, if you want to promote cricket in some region where they are unaware of the game, and you do it by using 20/20, you can say bye bye to that region ever being interested in test cricket. One dayers with 50 overs are fine as they are.

You never know, ICC must have tried and after all their efforts of promoting test cricket, they realized that there is no way they can make people interested in test cricket or ODI in places like USA. So they introduced 20/20, i guess 20/20 was a success last year in USA.
When cricket was introiduced in our part of the world, circumstances were different. It not as simple now to make people interested in a game which is played for 5 days or 1 whole day. I think ICC have decided that Olympics is a platform where they can organize circket in order to get worldwide attentionand interest, and over there they have to have a version of the game which will be appealing to people who are illiterate in terms of cricket. I think these people can never ever develop the interest for the longer version of the game.

The generation who has seen and enjoyed Test cricket will definitely be bored by Twenty/20, but newer generations/countries will favor shorter versions (ODIs and Twenty/20).
