Australia v Bangladesh, Second Test

Re: Bangladesh bats better than Pak, Windies: Waugh

I think Steve Waugh also forgot to mention one other nation or I think times of INdia forgot to write down :hehe:
In the first inning of 2nd test Bangladesh scored 295, something that INdia couldn’t in their 3 test played in Australia couple years back with the Australian bowling slightly weaker then the current Australia bowlers.
I mean check out the scores they made
285, 110, 238, 195, 150, and 261.

Typical aussie media talk of sizing up the oppositon publicly, and thereby providing then some sort of false security.

Their pride is badly hurt, they're going to come out stronger than ever in the next Test.

I think Steve Waugh knows that no one is giving a crap about his team's victory over Bangladesh so he is trying very hard to prove that these victories are hard earned.

I think Steve Waugh has a really fake and immature personality.

So another series win for Australia - though their first whitewash since beating Pakistan 3-0 last year in about October or so - that’s a pretty long time! :stuck_out_tongue: Great stuff from Stuart - he may fight Shane for a place in the side when he comes back!

The One-Dayers will be interesting - Ricky Ponting’s men will be looking to bounce back after losing 3 matches against the West Indies in the last series and will probably welcome the return of Damien Martyn. All in all Steven Waugh should probably be in the One-Day side the form he is in but that may ruin things so perhaps it is best to leave things as they are.

Anyway Bangladesh have certainly proved a point in this series - perhaps they are finally gonna get their act together and start winning the odd game here and there - start building a team and look towards the future?

:smokin2:

:konfused: What are you guys talking about?

This is what Steven said about Bangladesh:

He praised a spirited Bangladesh side, who have made Australia work hard so far in the second Test.

**“Bangladesh won’t realise how much they’ve improved until they play someone else after this series because I think there’s been massive improvement in all facets of their game and I think they’ll be very competitive after this,” he said.

“There’s no way you’ll find Bangladesh losing regularly by an innings after this - they’ll have a lot of self-belief.” **

:smokin2:

Talha bhai, what can I say?
Its India Times, they will go to any extent

Yeah even Dailytimes.com.pk will go to any extent :hehe:

** Bangladesh batting better than Pakistan and Windies, says Waugh **

CAIRNS: Australian skipper Steve Waugh praised hapless Bangladesh despite another heavy Test defeat here Monday, saying the minnows’ batting had been better than Pakistan and the West Indies.

Australia beat Bangladesh by an innings and 98 runs Monday, just over a week after crushing them by an innings and 132 runs in Darwin. But Waugh had words of encouragement for Bangladesh despite the back to back trouncings. “I can think of some batting line-ups worse than the Bangladeshis’,” said Waugh. “Their batting was a lot better than some West Indies’ efforts in recent years and they were better than Pakistan in Sharjah last year.”

Bangladesh’s Test record is now a dismal 20 losses and a draw from 21 contests. Waugh urged the critics to be fair however. “It’s easy to write off a side because they lost by an innings, but they will improve,” he said. “They have a lot of talent.”

Waugh said his side was stunned when Bangladesh reached 150 for one wicket on the first day. “Day one was a good performance,” he said. “We expected three or four early wickets at least, so when they were 150 for just one on a wicket that was doing a bit, that was quality batting. “They were positive, their body language was good, they took some balls on the body …I would say they’re on their way.” He said his bowlers sent the ball down short of a length in the first innings and had to “change their mindset” in order to get on top of the tourists.

Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore said his side held up Australia for a day longer than they had in Darwin. “That’s a way of looking at it — I thought there was definite improvement,” he said. “At 150 for one on the first day… most people might have been surprised … and to get 295 was excellent.”

The future, including a Test series against Pakistan after the one-dayers against Australia, looked bright, he said. “Maybe against other opposition in the future it might be just that little bit easier and we can progress,” he said. Whatmore said leg-spinner Stuart MacGill’s dominant performance of 17 wickets for the series was a result of his batsmen focusing so hard on keeping out pace bowlers they relaxed against MacGill. “We did not apply the same amount effort against the slower bowler as we did against the pace men,” he said.

Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud denied suggestions his team were more interested in posing for photographs with Waugh than getting him out during his innings of 156 not out. “When we are on the ground we are rivals, but off the ground we have guys who have liked Steve Waugh for a long time and that’s personal. “But when we are playing, we fight hard.” —AFP

I am waiting for you to call this paki newspaper a tabloid :hehe:

Talha, dont be confused, Here is the Fox report which originally published the report.

Bangladesh better than Windies: Waugh
July 28, 2003

STEVE Waugh can think of some batting line-ups worse than the Bangladeshis who succumbed by an innings and 98 runs in the second Test in Cairns today.

**“I think their batting was a lot better than some West Indies efforts in recent years and they were better than Pakistan in Sharjah last year,” **Waugh said after the match.

Bangladesh, while losing both Tests by an innings to Australia to take their record to 20 losses and a draw from 21 Tests, earned an admirer in Waugh.

Asked if critics needed to reassess Bangladesh after the Tigers made 295 and 163 to Australia’s 4 for 556 declared, Waugh said: “I think they (critics) need to be fair - it’s easy to write off a side because they lost by an innings but they will improve. They have got a lot of talent.”

Waugh said his side was stunned when Bangladesh progressed to 1 for 150 on the first day.

"Day one was a good performance, we expected three or four wickets at least so to be one for 150 on a wicket that was doing a bit was quality batting.

“They were positive, their body language was good, they took some balls on the body … they’re on their way.”

He admitted his bowlers were guilty of bowling short of a length in the first innings and had to “change their mindset” in order to get on top of the tourists.

Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore was pleased with the improvement shown by his side.

“We stretched the game out to a day longer than we did in Darwin so that’s a way of looking at it - I thought there was definite improvement,” Whatmore said.

“At one for 150 on the day most people might have been surprised … and to get 295 was excellent.”

He said the future - starting with a Test series against Pakistan after the one-day internationals against Australia - looked bright.

“Maybe against other opposition in the future it might be just that little bit easier and we can progress.”

Whatmore said Stuart MacGill’s dominant bowling performance of 17 wickets for the series was a result of his batsmen focusing so hard on keeping out pace bowlers they relaxed against MacGill.

“We didn’t apply the same amount effort against the slower bowler as we did against the quicks.”

Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud denied suggestions his team was more interested in posing for photos with Waugh than getting him out.

“When we are on the ground we are rivals but off the ground we have guys who have liked Steve Waugh for a long time and that’s personal but when we are playing we fight hard.”

Asif bhai unlike Bangalis your paper tigers couldn’t even get to 295 runs in 6 attempts. That tells you something doesn’t it. :hehe:
What do you think about that, I know you are ignoring me, because you don’t have answer.
Please do share your thoughts.

Your knowledge can’t be ignored. You are a bright light in this place of darkness :hehe: .

As for the scoring Runs - I know Steve Waugh Comments must have hurt you real bad that you have been bringing India again and again.

Well At least we didn’t get out for 59 and 53  What do you think about that ? BTW, when was the last time the mighty Paki team beat the Australians in a Test Series :hehe:

Ouch that hurts …

well c’mon yaar all he said was “some batting lineups” and he mentioned WI + PAK …what does tell that ???

Well since WI is a well esteblished side in world cricket as is PAK … so both had their ups and downs WI seems to be on the way UP and PAK seems to still looking for the right composition … both offerd pathetic shows in the past with PAK just last year in Sharjah and the WI a bit back in years … now tell me a team which did not go through this sort of patch ??? i think there was/is no team which was always on top … sure for a period but not always …

If someone is to measure himself with the AUS than one should take a look at (NOT the way they play) how they manage to keep such a high standard … they might be a talented side but this also the case with other teams …

It’s the levels they (school sides, club sides, regional sides, the State side and at the end of all this the selectors for the nat. side) have set themself … and they don’t low these levels for getting more youngs into the game or if neccessary axe prominnent name e. g. M. Waugh (it’s the whole structure something Imran was talking about for PAK) … That for me is the secret to remain at the top spot

Zero_one Brother, That answer is not for you, Please ignore that. I apologize if it hurt you. It is only for the likes of Umair316 because he keeps bringing India pak into this discussion.

I personally think Steve Waugh made a stup!d statement.

Asif_k: I hear you - Steven did indeed made the comment. It’s here as well.

Yeah okay possibly it is a bit patronising to think that just because they lost got whitewashed in a series and because all the matches in that series they lost all their matches by an innings plus that they should actually get credited! You are right ehsan, Australia probably did under-perform but I do in a sense agree with Steve too (he does a slight clue as to what he’s on about in all ) as this is the sort of performance that Bangladesh needed to boost their confidence. I mean let’s face it - its hardly like things can get worse for them can they now? They can only improve and criticising them performance (or the lack of it as the case may be) after performance will not help them. They need encouragment - not slaughtering! :stuck_out_tongue: They should look to build on this - they have Pakistan next and there is yet another side going through a transitional phase - they really should try and least win one of the Tests if not try and make a claim on the series - or even a draw would be a start though not weather affected as that’s hardly their won doing. They need to start doing something and however small it is it will mean something - maybe it won’t be enough but as I said above its very unlikely that things can get worse for them.

:smokin2:

Well atleast We didn’t get spanked for 340 runs thanks to one man, man that must have been serious pain in the butt.
BTW - When was the last time India beat anybody outside subcontinent let alone Australia, not even ZImbabwe. :hehe:

Yeah I still remember how Australians spanked 133 runs in 20 overs  with greatest bowling lineup bowling to some rookies. :hehe: at least we didn’t have the greatest bowlers in the world. Boy that 59 and 53 hurts too much., isn’t it..:rotfl:

Errr - Go and check West Indies tour, We won 1 test in our last WI Tour, 1 in last England Tour, Now I know you will go and change the question…

BTW - When was the last time Pakistan beat Australia in a Test Series home or away…:hehe:

Did you also forget being all out to 125 runs, atleast Pakistan put up a fight and reached past 200.
About 53, 59, yeah a lineup without Inzi, Yoyo, Anwar and co.
Yeah lets see how your team fares without Sachin and Dravid.

Let me make it clear, when was the last time you beat anybody outside subcontinent in a test series.
I’m starting to here night crawlers :hehe:
Not even ZImbabwe.
And also when was the last time India won a test series in England while Pakistan has been dominated for so many years.
If you can’t beat avg teams like Windies, Eng or NZL in a test series, why are you even bringing up Aus.
Also did you forget 52-30 record, we are still superior to you, both in test and one dayers.
India hasn’t won a series in Pakistan ever, nevermind about the series they have never won a test match ever in Pakistan.
Quite comparing yourself to us, we are still superior and lightyears ahead of you.

Damn right, we are superior to you in everything.

yeah 132 in a World cup final is really lot of fight :hehe: Btw - I love your jumping from ODI to TEST and TEST to ODI.

Excuses, Excuses and Excuses - Good that they were not there otherwise the score would have been even less. Weren’t these players dropped because of poor performance ? :hehe:

Question Change :hehe: when was the last time Pakistan Beat Australia, zimbabwe, South Africa, England at home. Even Zimbabwe and England beat the crap out of your team right in your own hood :hehe:

How many series has Pakistan won in West Indies and Australia ?? ZERO . India has at least won one series in West Indies :hehe: As for us comparing with Australia - we are the team which has beaten Australia 3 times in a Row in a test series at home. when was the last time Pakistan beat Aussie in a test series at home or away…:rotfl:

Yeah it’s hard to win a test series in Pakistan in the presence of Shakoor Ranas. Even the mighty Australians were without a series win in Pakistan for 39 years. :hehe:

You are the one who started the comparison. Yeah superior in Cheating and chucking too.

Umair and Asif, can you two stop this fight and hijacking of every thread.
